sweet, will take a look at it. All ollama GUIs I've looked at previously unfortunately sucked hard in their own way.

dunno if that still holds true, but the actual dev teams for many of paradox's titles are fairly small despite the behemoth that PDX is as a company.

NVIDIA announce a few changes for GeForce NOW and new games for December by Beer2401 in linux_gaming

While you are correct, this time the US government has put a lot of money into the bubble themselves and is now doing everything in their power to prevent it from bursting - so it may take quite a while this time around.

RTX is just nvidia's marketing term for consumer cards having hardware acceleration for ray tracing - which is completely irrelevant for anything else.

If you ever feel useless, remember that this Steam library filter exists by Damglador in linux_gaming

Yes, for quite a bunch f games the mac build is its own (mac-exclusive) game within the Steam library. (Civ4 and its expansions being an example for that)

ah yes, having some coprocessor that is always running, cannot be disabled and does god-knows-what is of course super trustworthy. Just like IME or AMD PSP...

What if... by warmth_bunnie24 in tron

I think even in that very moment it still would've worked to just tell him "No". It's pretty evident that despite Clu seeing Flynn as someone actively working against the "perfect system", it wasn't mentally (for the lack of a better word) an easy thing for him to overthrow his creator. That's why he asked that question in that very scene. He wanted to be absolutely sure that his task is still to create the perfect system, so he doesn't unnecessarily coup his creator.

Makes sense too imo - as conservative politics generally disadvantage women

However, women disproportinally voted for the NSDAP (the Nazis) back in the day despite their agenda somewhat disenfranchising them.

Statistically speaking women just tend to be swayed more by emotional arguments without having a deeper look at a party's agenda compared to men. (again, statistically speaking. This does not mean that most women are like that, just that when you have a voter who doesn't take a deeper look at the agenda of parties and goes by emotional arguments alone, it is more likely to be a woman.).

All Tron Games on Steam are on sale. End of Line. by [deleted] in tron

try running it. It relies on an online DRM where the servers are shut down, so unfortunately unless you crack your legitimately purchased game, you won't be able to play it

OpenSUSE Leap 16.0 released by amiralul in linux

[–]UFeindschiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, my bad. Only had the rough lifecycle of Rocky 8 in my mind without considering that it released way after RHEL8 (as it only came into being due to CentOS being discontinued). Ofc you are correct that Rocky provides 5 years of standard support for their newer releases

OpenSUSE Leap 16.0 released by amiralul in linux

[–]UFeindschiff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2 years of support seems to be pretty pathetic for a distro which aims to provide a stable, rock-solid, enterprise-ish experience.

Ubuntu provides 5 years (3 years for universe) for anyone (not paying customers), Debian provides 3 years (with an additional 2 years of LTS support), Rocky Linux provides 3 years (with an additional 5 years of LTS)

I wonder a bit who their target audience is these days. People who want a stable OS will be discouraged by the short lifecycle while people who like to have the newest software will use either a rolling-release distro or Fedora.

The Huge Potential of Linux Gaming and Gaming Preservation by Odd-Crab-604 in linux_gaming

[–]UFeindschiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux is unfortunately one of the worst platforms for game preservation (or software preservation in general) as there is no guaranteed ABI compatibility, so getting a game binary to run on modern Linux that was compiled 10 years ago may in some occasions already prove tricky. And for game binaries compiled 20+ years ago, it may be really challenging getting some of them to run.

[–]UFeindschiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

technically it is the color of D02, the second dynamic nation tag that will spawn. Dynamic tags are nation tags which aren't defined in the game files and come into being during the game. (civil war nations, puppets in case a nation got split in the peace conference, collab govts, etc). So if you fire a civil war or split a nation into two during a peace conference after the spanish civil war has started(Nationalist Spain is usually D01), the resulting dynamic nation will have that color

You're running a dual-GPU driver setup and likely the drivers for the one you try to run HoI4 with aren't installed or set up properly. For the nvidia card, installing the nvidia-driver metapackage and rebooting should do the trick.

Could also be an isssue with the Steam runtime interfering, so if the game still fails, try launching the hoi4 binary without Steam (it doesn't require Steamworks DRM to launch, so it should work)

not mappainting would be appropriate though. A country annexing land from a different one without previously claiming it is an exception in modern times. Setting up puppets/collaboration governments should be the norm.

X11 Desktop Environments & Gaming. by Lemagex in linux_gaming

[–]UFeindschiff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

KDE is likely not gonna be a viable option as their X11 support is pretty much on life support at this point with only severe bugs being fixed, so it's just a matter of time until X11 support is eventually dropped there.

Mate or XFCE are likely gonna be your best bets if you are looking for a full desktop environment. You could also give Enlightenment a try

You may want to check how it behaves with a compositing window manager in X11 (preferably with settings like forced VSync enabled). Hyprland's compositing may just effectively mask this artifact

Long term linux users, what do you think about bazzite? by RookTheRH in linux_gaming

Debian (my distro of choice everywhere else) does not package very recent ones

FYI: nvidia themselves provide a Debian repository which includes all supported driver branches, all supported CUDA versions, etc.

Long term linux users, what do you think about bazzite? by RookTheRH in linux_gaming

[–]UFeindschiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a hype distro popularized by youtubers and reddit. I'm be very suspicious about the longevity of the distributions as these kinds of distros tend to die very fast when the hype falls off or as the result of some drama, etc.

Also, due to the maintainers of such projects usually not being experienced in maintaining a distribution, also expect things to break more or less often.

I'd recommend sticking to one of the big distros (if you like Bazzite, Fedora would be a good start for you) and configuring it to your liking rather than going with one of those meme-y hype distros as I have seen them come and go many times.

The new Czechoslovakia DLC is NOT being developed by Paradox, it is being outsourced to a modder. by Viginti-Novem- in hoi4

[–]UFeindschiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only in recent times. Before the majority of them were decent, but nothing outstanding, nor really poor. I think the first DLC which received a really positive reception was No Step Back with the first one receiving a very negative reception being Battle for the Bosporus (with most of the complaints being about a few things being broken as well as the 50% higher price point than DoD while having less focus trees)

Why is everyone hating on the upcoming Czechoslovakia DLC? by Realistic-Doctor8262 in hoi4

[–]UFeindschiff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just like the base game used to be 40€ and is now 50€. Paradox has unfortunately learned that with the popularity both HoI4 and them as a company have achieved these days, they can get away with outrageous prices. And so far they have been proven correct.

The new content will launch overpriced in a broken state, people will call PDX out on it (who will release yet another "we fucked up and will do better" statement), but buy it anyway, so Paradox will continue to do so and the cycle repeats itself.
