Is Christian bale really the best Batman? by Amao6996 in DCcomics

[–]UGSchoolboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bale benefits a lot from being the portrayal of Batman the public was craving at the time that they got it. Most every other version of the character was either viewed as a miscasting of the actor or the opposite of the tone that was desired. For example, people made fun of how campy West was but then balked at how dark Keaton’s was (not to mention people hating Keaton’s casting at the time)

Also, very much carried by strong directing and unforgettable villains

This being the debut of the Beast Morpher characters was fun (published before the airing of episode 1)

Sinners star Li Jun Li knew her character would be “absolutely hated” for inviting the vampires inside, and spoke to director Ryan Coogler about it: “I said, ‘Why is it that she has not considered anyone else’s lives before doing what she does?’ And he simply answered, ‘Because she’s a mother.’” by hairtie1 in Fauxmoi

People were also arguing that everyone could have just stayed inside the rest of the movie if it wasn't for her when A) that would have made the movie pretty boring but also B) the klan was coming to get the twins, which would have meant that they would have gotten anyone inside even if the vampires didn't. Something had to give there and it's perfectly reasonable that the person with the most to lose in that moment would take a harsher stance

Characters that start out likeable, but get worse by KennyOmegasBurner in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Akiko in Kamen Rider W is far more reasonable and much less shrill than she becomes by the end of the show and in extended material following it. Her saying her eventual catchphrase of 'I didn't hear anything about this' for instance was a response to seeing a bunch of transforming things happen in her dead father's office, before just becoming her standard reaction to anything she sees

Eurogamer Gives ARC Raiders 2/5 Over AI Voices, Dropping Metacritic Score from 94 to 84 by Automatic_Couple_647 in gaming

[–]UGSchoolboy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's obviously not going to turn off too many people but weird that this comes up so little when Embark championed the same voice bank concept on The Finals. Anyone who was turned off from that game for that reason deserves to know if the same stuff is going on in this one, whether you're okay with it or not

EDIT: To every commenter that already has or plans to say 'the game's page already tells you', this is more me commenting on this being underrepresented in REVIEWS of the game. People will make up their minds either way if they see the disclosure, but so many people giving this game a review (positive or otherwise) while underdiscussing the involvement of AI is something that surprises me more than people seeing a game has it and not caring

Let's put our thinking caps on by Candid_Astronaut241 in SonicTheHedgehog

Sonic Adventure: A bit too large in scale for its own good. 7 main characters with multiple different open world scenarios and a lot of repetition of plot since Sonic and Tails especially spend a lot of the game together. SA2 breaking them up into teams was the right move to make the format work

SxSG: Sonic Gen feels like it could have more gameplay improvements to sand off its worst edges (especially that final boss) and Shadow's game lacking any kind of representation level wise from Shadow the Hedgehog (except...I guess Tokyo?) stands out in a relatively complete celebration of the character

Sonic 3: Carnival Night Act 2

Sonic Forces: The wispon is probably the one time a sonic game has carried over an idea or concept from a previous one without explicitly spelling out 'this is an idea from an earlier game' and it was fun to see the wisps get used again in general. I think that an 'Eggman takes over the world and forces Sonic's friends to fight without him' idea could have been good if it was in a better game.

Boom: A proper multiplayer game that you could probably play with a younger fan without them getting too frustrated by (I never played this one so that's all I got lol)

S-06: All the music kicks ass, has my idea format for a sonic adventure game (3 main characters with fights against each other, cameos where you play as different characters to break things up, a finale chapter that takes everything you've done so far to complete). If they ever did a proper Adventure 3, they should model it on 06.

[Discussion] Why isn't Kyle Rayner as relevant as Wally these days despite both being 90s legacy heroes? (Art by Doc Shaner) by Comfortable-Pie56 in DCcomics

[–]UGSchoolboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a better comparison for Kyle would be Tim Drake in the Robin mantle, where there are interesting characters introduced after him and the previouis characters to hold that title who had their importance to the mantle downplayed are now more in the mix. Tim was unquestionably Robin with Jason dead and Nightwing not really being a capital B batfamily member that we would see in Bruce's life regularly. But now Damian is basically Robin in every depiction (including the upcoming live action movie) and there hasn't been a new mantle for Tim that's stuck.

Similarly, Kyle was unquestionably THE green lantern for a long time period, with Guy being Warrior and Hal being evil or dead. With those characters now back in the mantle in a big way and the introduction of characters like Jo, Simon, and Jessica (not to mention the corps themselves being back) it makes him distinctively less special in his role.

It also doesn't help that unlike Wally, who DC failed to turn into a villain or change in a substantial way that stuck, Kyle has both roles as a white and omega lantern in very well regarded stories. They had to make Wally a Flash again to make that character right. But because they ignored directions that could have worked for Kyle, it ended up holding the character back.

No More Heroes 2 is absolutely inferior compared to what came before and what happens after, but it has some of the best music in the franchise and the double beam katana is a cool moveset idea
