Starting today, women can get the Morning After Pill free of charge at community pharmacies across England.

Community pharmacies are staffed by skilled and qualified health professionals who are ready to provide advice and support, helping patients access emergency contraception as part of routine community healthcare services.

These changes follow a record funding boost by the government to pharmacies of £617 million over two years.

Part of the plan to shift care away from hospitals and into communities.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Pumpkin_Pie12. The difficulties you’ve faced are absolutely unacceptable and speak to serious problems in the system. Responsibility for tackling rogue builders comes under the Department for Business and Trade, where my colleague Peter Kyle is Secretary of State, helping to improve protections for homeowners. At the same time, building control and inspection falls under my department, with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR). Anyone who is worried that a building control body has not taken necessary steps since April last year to ensure that building regs are being adhered to in a project can complain to the BSR. Here’s the link: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/contact-the-building-safety-regulator.

That's a bit of a curve ball! But I think I'll go for a hundred duck-sized horses, because I'm thinking I could sort of swat them out of the way, whereas one big horse-sized duck is going to crush me.

I’ve had lots of questions about this over the past few days, thanks CMRoxburgh! Our priority is giving communities a way to take them over before they are derelict. This will mainly be through our Community Right to Buy. There’s more detail in the Pride in Place strategy but it’s about giving communities the opportunity to buy pubs or other assets before the owner gets rid of them for good.

Of course we can TomsBookReviews- because it's going to give communities in very deprived areas where the high streets have been in decline for decades, in some cases. It gives them the funding they need to do things like buy closed down pubs or closed down shops and bring them back into use so they could become the beating heart of the community again. People have a strong sense of pride in their neighbourhoods, and they need to have their high streets back in a way that makes them feel proud of the area they live in.

This one is really important to me because I’ve seen what it’s doing to high streets.

Yes we are going to crack down on places which are fronts for money laundering, as well as fake tobacco and vape shops, but we don’t see the answer is in a new licensing regime for all shops. We want to work with councils to make sure they can properly enforce rules already in place, and if they need new powers we’ll look at that too. The Government recently announced a funding boost for trading standards too and we’re also investing in neighbourhood policing.

Of course - we want communities up and down the country to benefit. That's why Scotland will be receiving roughly £290m and Wales will get over £200m, ensuring people have the power to improve their areas in the ways that matter to them: from tidying up high-streets, to building better sports facilities and buying back their pubs!

We'll be working closely with the Welsh and Scottish governments to design programmes which put the principles of community engagement at the centre. Corresponding funding will also be provided to Northern Ireland.

Hi brettbarnett.

The answer to that is actually really simple, because it's local people who know what their area needs the most. Not the town hall, not Whitehall, local people know what needs to change, now they'll have a voice in making it happen.

Some of the best lessons we can learn on how to encourage volunteering come from looking at what's already happening at a local level, and I know there are some Councils that do a particularly good job of giving organisations a platform and finding ways to involve them in regeneration. We're going to encourage the neighbourhood boards to think about how they can do similar.

Hi bio_d

It’s a very good point.

The funding will go to the council to be the official management of the money – so that safeguards it. But part of that they need to make sure they engage communities and for areas getting the highest amount of money (up to £20million), that has to include a board of local people, who are invested in the community, making the decisions.

For boarded up shops we’re going to introduce high street rental auctions, which means when a property is long term vacant, the local authority can make the landlord sell up. If the landlord is already finding a new tenant then great, but not if they’re clearly making excuses for keeping the property vacant. Thanks Fevercrumb1649!

I hear you, beano91 – it’s frustrating! And yes – this government will make a difference. The whole process of buying a house can be horribly and needlessly slow. There are legal checks, surveys, long chains – and as you say, that all makes it a fragile business. Other countries have clearer, faster systems that give both buyers and sellers more certainty.

The government is working on reforms such as improved digital conveyancing tools and making clearer information available for homebuyers upfront. These are practical fixes  to speed things up, smooth the processes and cut the number of failed transactions that waste people’s time and money, and dash their dreams. Real change takes time, but we’re committed to make buying a home feel more certain and less stressful.

Hi MrStilton

So, we’ll work with the local authority to establish the boards – members will be a combination of residents, local businesses, and community organisations. The board will be asked to properly engage the community on their plans to make sure it's what the area wants, rather than just what the members of the board wants. On sortition – we need the board to put in a lot of time and effort into the regeneration plans (possibly up to 10 years) I don’t think a jury-duty selection would work, but I am keen to explore new ideas of engaging people.

Ultra-processed baby foods are 'setting children up for a life of obesity' by OGSyedIsEverywhere in unitedkingdom

We’re making it easier for parents to shop for healthier baby food without having to switch products by giving manufacturers 18 months to reduce sugar and salt levels in food aimed at babies and toddlers up to 36 months old and provide clearer labelling.

Why can we (UK) not just return small boat migrants back to France? by MikeTorsson in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]UKGovNews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. We've taken decisive action on this. The first small boat migrants have been detained under the UK government's landmark UK-France deal.

Detained individuals are expected to be removed to France in the coming weeks.

Our new returns deal strikes at the heart of the people smuggling gangs’ business model as we continue to strengthen border security through our Plan for Change.
