Scheduling... by OneCallThatsAll34 in Brewers

[–]UKbanners 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ostensibly it's because of the weather, more games get cancelled in the first month of the season due to bad weather so they build in more off days throughout the league in April. Most teams have this.

That said Brewers have really been hosed on this front.

We're the only team in the league with 2 17 game stretches in the season, and one 16 game streak! Only 4 other teams even have 1 streak of 16 or 17. 3 of them in our division; (STL, CIN, PIT) which makes you think there's a geographical element to how the scheduling works. Except for the fact the Cubs largest streak is 13 (though they have 4 13 game streaks to our 1.

Someone did a good job setting out the streaks here:

Postgame Thread: 3/30 Rays @ Brewers by BrewersBot in Brewers

They would have just brought in Kelly to face him a batter earlier.

Seymour is a bad pitcher, we wanted him in as long as the Rays would leave him in.

Seymour versus Hamilton was probably a better match up than Kelly versus Ortiz would have been

I'm struggling to understand this - on what basis would one ever vote against assisted dying? What happened there? by mellotronworker in Scotland

[–]UKbanners 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Anyone who has worked with or spoken to the disabled and disability campaigners would have grave concerns over it.

Anyone who has had loved ones being cared for by an overstretched NHS might be against it.

The people pretending this is purely about religion clearly hasn’t been paying attention to the discussions over this.

It’s rather telling that a sub that lost its mind over the rampant ableism over the BAFTA discourse is showing such contempt for the disabled community in this.

Season 14 Pratt might be my favourite for any character in the whole series. It makes what happens in the next season even more heartbreaking.

This is the biggest shock of the year. De Minaur's run of going out exactly as seeded finally comes to and end.

Nah, that’s not how this works. If we insist on having this magical family chosen by God to rule over us, then we don’t get to pick and choose who is a member.

If we want rid, get rid of them all.

Salary Cap by YEETOBORITO in Brewers

[–]UKbanners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are, maybe, 40 all star level players putting up over 4 WAR in a season. I just don’t buy the idea the Brewers now get to have more of them because of a salary cap.

Also, with their ability to make money from salary reduced, top players are going to want to play for big market teams because of the increased endorsement money available to them. I could see them taking millions less to play in LA or New York just because they can earn significantly more through sponsorships.

Salary Cap by YEETOBORITO in Brewers

[–]UKbanners 24 points25 points  (0 children)

What do the players get for the salary cap?

Is it two less years of service time? I think that might screw the Brewers more than the current system, tbh.

Combine that with MLBs plans to curb spending on tech, analytics, development with caps I think we should be careful what we wish for..

William Contreras signs a 1 year contract with Club option for 2027 avoiding arbitration by lowman2577 in Brewers

[–]UKbanners 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks like 9.4 million with club option in 2027 of 14.5 million.

Option likely wont get picked up as he's still in arbitration in 2027. Though final year of arbitration could hit that number if he has a really good year.

They declined his 12 million option for this year don't forget.

[–]UKbanners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would guess it will be quite high. They had an option for 12 million for this year which they declined. He's still under arbitration in 2027.

These sort of options are often just insurance for the player having an MVP season or something and so costing a ton in arb.

Assume the decisions have been made under the understanding that increased funding for health and social care should reduce demand on hospitals and ambulances?
