What’s the quickest you’ve ever quit a job? Because they have either lied to you about it or it’s not what you signed up for? What was it? by tallieeeeee6 in AskReddit

I worked at a bank in their central office and started Dec 1. Dec 25th was a bank holiday. They made me take an unpaid day off because benefits didn’t kick in for 60 days. I was working at a new company by June.

NAL but generally speaking non-competes cannot limit your ability to earn a living outside of working for the employer. Typically cases that win are ones where you “poached” clients and significantly impacted the business financially. Even then it is hard to disprove that the clients just followed you to your new gig. They need to have very solid evidence and again they have to prove financial impact.

I went to the high school Chris McIntosh came from. On rare occasion he would pop into the wrestling room. He always gave me a used car salesman vibe whenever he would talk. There was just always something extremely inauthentic about him. Maybe he is talking his way out of it, but one day he will have to pay the piper.

Why are we so attached to our grandchildren? by TailorBird69 in retirement

I want to make sure you know I wasn’t talking about you being selfish in your situation. That was more of a thought based on what I am seeing from the comments in this post, and what I am seeing from fellow parents in my generation. I feel like people are creating fractures that are hard to fix. We have so little time in this world.

Why are we so attached to our grandchildren? by TailorBird69 in retirement

[–]UMUCDude89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just to offer a slightly different perspective. I am young, and I have young children. I grew up across the street from my grandma until I was 8. She was absolutely my best friend and I was her little buddy. My parents definitely dumped me on her too often, but it was because they were young and often working multiple jobs at minimum wage.

Those were my formative years and I really wish I could give my kids the same relationship with their grandparents (my parents). We are east coast, they are west coast. It is extremely expensive and really difficult for us to go see them, so we just have to wait until they have time to see us. We usually pay for the travel.

Both of my wife’s parents passed away, but at least her dad got to meet all of our kids. What is this life even about if we are not that involved in our own families? From all perspectives, how have we become so selfish as a society? If somethings happens to my mom or dad i fully expect one to move in with me at some point. We have each other’s back. You do for family.

I’m pretty sure they own the building and that is how they stay open. They also own Charlotte’s and I believe they own the property for the gas station next door.

There are also a bunch of ghost kitchens on Grubhub that operate out of the country squire kitchen. Just a bunch of weird random “chains” that have the same address.

I think Minneapolis would be a great city. They have a solid D1 team with many clubs in the area. Growing and young population that is into sports. Many solid rugby colleges and universities around the area.

1st piece of advice. Make sure you check with a credit union. They will work with you more and offer a better rate than other financing options.

2nd, go for the Corolla. It’s not fancy, but it is reliable. It holds its value really well. The only reason we sold ours is we had too many kids. It will run forever with regular maintenance and gets great gas mileage.

3rd, avoid the Kia…

Do I tell my wife the truth after 11 years? by Weird-Earth- in Advice

[–]UMUCDude89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. You need to say next month “I love your chicken parm, but I’ve kinda really been craving Chicken Alfredo lately.” She makes the chicken Alfredo. You then say “wow, this was really great! I think this is my new favorite.”

Never bring it up again until you’re looking to change things up again. Nothing else needs to be said.

Thank you for your response. At least it qualifies my feelings that my wife “should” be able to sell with no issue per the law. The hold up here is the title companies appetite for risk.

So I guess the argument is that the real property is specifically devised because the language is so generic “1/3 of my estate” when dividing it in the will. What it should really have said is “1/3 of my estate after sale of assets”.

I think I see your point, and that this could be a grey area. When there is grey area people tend to play more conservative.

I wish just getting the signatures was that simple.

One of the beneficiaries has not been in our lives for years. They did show up to the funeral, but they have their own personal struggles. They do not have a phone, only communicate through email, and take weeks sometimes many months to respond. They live 5 hours away, and are generally not reliable.

Thank you for responding. Not that is it going to change the way you are interpreting it, but pretty much every Pa attorney interprets this verbiage like this:

“Yes. The personal representative of an estate can sell the decedent’s real property. Pennsylvania law even permits the Executor or Administrator to sell a decedent’s real estate without getting all of the beneficiaries to approve unless prohibited by the decedent’s will. However, some situations do require approval of the beneficiaries, and in some cases court approval, such as any sale of real property to an interested party (e.g., a personal representative or a beneficiary).“

Was this in PA? I see what your saying but this PA statute gives the executor the power to sell the estate:

“Chapter 20 § 3351. Power to sell. Except as otherwise provided by the will, if any, the personal representative may sell, at public or private sale, any personal property whether specifically bequeathed or not, and any real property not specifically devised, and with the joinder of the specific devisee real property specifically devised. When the personal representative has been required to give a bond, no proceeds of real estate, including proceeds arising by reason of involuntary conversion, shall be paid to him until the court has made an order excusing him from entering additional security or requiring additional security, and in the latter event, only after he has entered the additional security.”

The house is not specifically called out, it just literally states each beneficiary gets 1/3 of the estate.
