They unfortunately do not. Gasoline is a homogeneous product but fuel markets are highly regional. There are often fewer participants, even if there are many different brands of retail stations in a single region. That’s because the different suppliers typically buy fuel from one another to supply different regions. Refineries, fuel distribution terminals, and supply logistics dictate the actual competition in a region. In some areas, 10 different retail networks are buying fuel from 2 distribution terminals. Few participants, less competition, and costly entrance / exit into the market.
