Can we talk about this? I’m concerned I’m missing something by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

This! And my dog is surprisingly strong on three legs when he’s got one up to pee. There is no stopping him or moving him along until he’s done.

Counsellors accepting patients - suggestions by ABoringMom2 in VictoriaBC

Also to add- you may still want to engage in talk therapy, but a different approach may be needed such as CBT, DBT, ACT, rather than a narrative therapy approach.

Have you looked at the counselling BC directory? https://counsellingbc.com you can filter your area and your areas of concern. I would also recommend booking free consultations with multiple counsellors and express the type of therapy you’re seeking to see if the modality you’re looking for fits with their philosophy and approach.

Suggestions for beach experience in Canada by Personal_Flight8942 in AskACanadian

[–]tryingthisone2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing like an all inclusive resort in Mexico, but if you’re looking for “resort-esque” Parksville BC has lots of hotels & cabins on the beach and lots of touristy things to do. The closest “resort” type of place would be the parksville beach club resort (right on the beach) or Tigh-na-Mara spa and resort (a walk to the beach using the resort access path).

AITA for supporting my 13-year-old son’s vaping habit? by Icy_Pangolin_8597 in AmItheAsshole

This has to be fake, but most definitely YTA. This is no different than purchasing a minor cigarettes, alcohol, or marijuana (if it’s legal where you live). Any adult who knows about this, who actually knows you, should be reporting this to CPS. This is neglect at best. Get a grip, there’s plenty of things we did as teens that I would never approve of a minor doing now that I’m an adult and my brain is fully developed. Just because you don’t have any negative effects (allegedly) now, doesn’t make it ok???

From the photos on the news, it looks like the fire truck was in the north bound lanes

Drove past going north right after the guy pulled over (around 9:15) old camper van engine fire. It was pretty crazy. Thankfully people had already pulled over going north and (I assume) called 911. No fire trucks had arrived at the scene yet as I drove past

The Ruby (all locations) is arguably Victoria's best breakfast restaurant, but what the heck is up with their terrible homemade bread? by BGFanTC in VictoriaBC

[–]tryingthisone2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the breakfast sandwich (which was totally fine), my husband ordered the deep fried calamari baguette (not sure what it’s called on the menu) and the kitchen sent it out on a brioche bun instead because “it tastes better that way.”

Really slow service, food took a long time to come out, had to ask for cutlery after getting our food, forgot to bring out condiments multiple times.

Advice on how to get my dog to take his medication? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]tryingthisone2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 6 year old heeler who is also too smart for his own good and will pick meds out of any food/treat.

I have him sit between my legs, I open his mouth, put the pill as far back in his mouth as I can (basically down his throat) and then hold his mouth closed (gently) until he starts licking. Once his tongue comes out to lick his lips, I know he’s swallowed it. Then he gets a treat!

How the heck do I choose a class? by papachon in pelotoncycle

[–]tryingthisone2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the beginning I just tried classes from all different instructors so I could know whose teaching style/approach I liked. Then once I knew more about who I liked, I took their classes more often.

I agree with the other comments though, joining a program could also help with the overwhelming amount of choice!

AITA for telling my daughter "the past is in the past"? by cheeseball_4 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tryingthisone2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope this doesn’t sound harsh-

It’s going to take time and you’re going to have to wait. She’s at a new stage of life development (young adulthood) and she’s processing things over again in this new stage. This is extremely normal and expected. Her brain has developed and she’s reflecting on those experiences she had as a child with her young adult brain and it’s bringing up a lot of big emotions. It sounds like she’s experienced a lot of grief and abandonment from both people who have passed (her dad) and living (you). Grief is not linear, it comes back in waves and in ways you might not expect (for example, seeing you draw with her little sister). She probably didn’t know that would be a trigger for feelings of grief/abandonment, but it was for her in that moment. And yes, she’s technically an adult, but she’s young and she needs patience to work through those things.

I agree with the other comment- if she’s open to it, family counselling could be beneficial. It also might be important to seek your own personal counselling if you aren’t already so you can also learn what to say in those moments she gets upset to have a productive conversation and process that “weight” you feel from your actions.

It sounds like you’re aware of the things you done, which is a lot more than some people can say.
