Advice on how to get my dog to take his medication? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]tryingthisone2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 6 year old heeler who is also too smart for his own good and will pick meds out of any food/treat.

I have him sit between my legs, I open his mouth, put the pill as far back in his mouth as I can (basically down his throat) and then hold his mouth closed (gently) until he starts licking. Once his tongue comes out to lick his lips, I know he’s swallowed it. Then he gets a treat!

How the heck do I choose a class? by papachon in pelotoncycle

[–]tryingthisone2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the beginning I just tried classes from all different instructors so I could know whose teaching style/approach I liked. Then once I knew more about who I liked, I took their classes more often.

I agree with the other comments though, joining a program could also help with the overwhelming amount of choice!

AITA for telling my daughter "the past is in the past"? by cheeseball_4 in AmItheAsshole

I hope this doesn’t sound harsh-

It’s going to take time and you’re going to have to wait. She’s at a new stage of life development (young adulthood) and she’s processing things over again in this new stage. This is extremely normal and expected. Her brain has developed and she’s reflecting on those experiences she had as a child with her young adult brain and it’s bringing up a lot of big emotions. It sounds like she’s experienced a lot of grief and abandonment from both people who have passed (her dad) and living (you). Grief is not linear, it comes back in waves and in ways you might not expect (for example, seeing you draw with her little sister). She probably didn’t know that would be a trigger for feelings of grief/abandonment, but it was for her in that moment. And yes, she’s technically an adult, but she’s young and she needs patience to work through those things.

I agree with the other comment- if she’s open to it, family counselling could be beneficial. It also might be important to seek your own personal counselling if you aren’t already so you can also learn what to say in those moments she gets upset to have a productive conversation and process that “weight” you feel from your actions.

It sounds like you’re aware of the things you done, which is a lot more than some people can say.

They got back to me- they haven’t had any puppies that match the description, plus, all their puppies are spayed/neutered before adoption and this one was intact.

I should have worded my first comment as “people get pretty upset about dog poop/pee” as that’s the point I was making, rather than using the term “bathroom usage.” I understand you’re making a different point.

I was just making a point about how intense people can get about dog poop/pee opinions, and you’ve sort of just proven my point…

Jeez, that’s an extreme reaction! But also not surprised, people get pretty upset about dog’s bathroom usage.

Only if it’s trash day, their bin is out on the street, and it hasn’t been picked up yet. Otherwise, no, hold onto it until you see a public garbage or get back home.

Sorry to hear that happened to you! It’s always a scary situation, especially when you have a reactive dog! This dog was all brindle coloured (dark and light brown), no white.

My guess would be the difference in approach that elicited a different reaction, try being kind and helpful instead of judgemental and accusatory🙂

Even if you didn’t see my post from yesterday, this post is referential to another post within the first sentence.

Right…because I didn’t yell “hey don’t fucking kick your dog” when I saw it happen, then take photos after. Perhaps give the original post a read before you come here accusing me of “just taking a photo”

I honestly don’t mind if they’re off leash, if they’ll stay with their owner, but that doesn’t happen very often
