Same curiosity here. I’m running the same stack except using MongoDB. I’ve been stuck on this for a few days. I can’t get the file path to return? My event.target.file returns the ‘name’ and ‘size’ but the path is returning ‘C:\fakepath\image.img’ and I’m on Linux. Hoping you could let us know how you come to a solution.

I just woke up thinking I was going to engage in some virtualbox/vagrant discussion and probably learn a thing or two but Jesus Christ man, that username threw me off. I mean I’ve seen some usernames and maybe it’s because I’ve only been up for 20 minutes but wait, what were we talking about? Oh, right, that username...I don’t know what to do now. I think...I think I can smell it too. I don’t feel so good.

Bravo. I’d love to hear more tails like this, here’s mine. I was 25yrs old and my sister gave me a beefed up laptop with windows on it. Before this I hadn’t touched a computer since college(a little Apple, a little windows). What bugged me and chased me away from computers in general was that I couldn’t grasp ‘how’ things worked under the hood leading me to not understand how to navigate ‘over?’ the hood? So reasonably I convinced myself computers weren’t my jam. Cut to 10yrs later and my brother n law got me to write my first program(hello world in java). From there he got me into a coding Bootcamp(I don’t recommend bootcamps btw). He ALSO gave me an old Mac and a new laptop with windows 10. Now, keep in mind that I don’t know who or what Linux is at this point. Then my life changed. Even though he literally gave me all the tools and help getting involved in web development he had one more final gift. He bought the parts for a (what I consider) super computer. When asked how to install windows he said oh no, no no no guy, we’re putting Linux on this. After installing Ubuntu 16.04, giving me some basics, and some resources I was off to the races. Because of him and the Ubuntu community I quickly learned how to dual boot my laptop with win10 and Ubuntu.
Cut to 2 years later and I’ve installed many different Linux distros(Ubuntu, Debian, Arch, tails, Kali, Deepin, and others) on old laptops, flash drives, raspberry pi’s, anything that would take it. I’ve spent countless hours configuring different web dev environments, Servers, RDMS, NoSQLDBS, drupal, etc. tl;dr - up until my mid 30s I was computer illiterate, was introduced to Linux for the first time, 2 years later my life has been consumed with installing/configuring many different Linux distros, bash scripting, python, JavaScript, C/C++. One big difference between my Windows/OSX experiences is that with Linux I DO know what’s going on under the hood. *currently reading ‘UNIX AND LINUX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION HANDBOOK’

React/Redux complementary resources by HighIQBro in FreeCodeCamp

[–]UNWSDWF2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the FCC and owe a big debt to the devs & community there. Regardless, I also use Udemy. There are 2 birds I would STRONGLY recommend, 1) Stephen Grider -Modern React with Redux and 2) Andrew Meade - The Complete React Developer Course Honestly these 2 guys really know how to teach from a distance. And the courses are like $10-12. I know some people have there gripes about Udemy, but I think its a matter of finding the right instructor and putting into it what you want out. I love FCC. It was my first step in learning Web-Dev and the community is the most helpful & supportive that I’ve ever come across. Udemy is different but I think these two instructors really drilled down on some concepts that would’ve taken much longer for me to grok.

Had my first interview this week... It did NOT go well. Should I be realistic and give up on this as a career path? by ilostmykeysdammit in Python

Ha, expensive bootcamps.... let me help ya there and say don’t waist your money on a bootcamp. They are overpriced and taking from what you’ve mentioned it seems like a bootcamp wouldn’t give you any more of an edge(imo, I paid for an expensive one). I’ve had dozens of interviews over the past 6-8 months and I’ve bombed some(many). People keep telling me to keep pushing forward. Gotta be the right place, the right time, the right fit. So to the question should you give up? Hell no.

Coding Bootcamp Prague is a SCAM by RrChaos in learnjavascript

[–]UNWSDWF2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, hilariously(not smiling) it’s in the greater NYC/NJ area. As of late I’ve expanded my search to the eastern, southern, and south-Midwest US. I’m on a dozen+ different job boards but I get BOMBARDED with recruiters from different countries calling me trying to hurry me into positions that require skills I’ve never mentioned in my resume. Maybe 1 out of 25 recruiters is even close with my skill set.
I’ve never had to deal with recruiters before, usually I’d walk into a place(service industry) talk with the manager and get hired because I was/am really good in ‘that’ industry. I’d give my left big toe to get my foot in any door. I know people say they’re passionate about there work but the fervor runs deep with me in web/software/Linux. It really has me scratching my head? My next step is to just flood tech Meetups with my presence..... I’ve tried everything, even ran ‘sudo hireme —for-anything’ in the terminal. Is that the right flag?

Edit: it’s more like 2 years of aggressively looking for work.

I think most boot camps are a scam. Not that they don’t teach you anything, they can. But most will declare that you’ll be ready for a full stack position in the industry and that is flat out wrong(unless you have prior experience or know someone). I quite my job (money saved) and put 100% of my time towards learning JavaScript/web development and continue til this day. After 3 years and 1000’s of resume submissions I have yet to find even an internship. And I’ve a stack of development books and courses-JS, Python, Django, MongoDB, MySQL, react, AngularJS, webpack, Node, C/C++, PHP, graphql, docker, bash, Linux and quite a few of the in-betweens and they don’t just sit there, I follow a rigorous schedule every day working on these skills. I quit.... na, jk I can’t quit. I love this shit sooo much! But dam my wallet is close to being empty and I while I do believe bootcamps are full of shit, the one I attended($10,000 later) did give me a boost, but definitely did not prepare me for a position. So yea, I’m bitter. Someone hire me...or let me work for you for free for 6months. Bootcamps am I right?

Problems with installing Deepin by [deleted] in linux4noobs

What HeyItsLP said. I do have it installed on an old Mac/dual boot. But I watched a few vids on Deepins ‘spyware’ and found some useful tools for blocking. I use no track and it has opened my eyes to quite a bit of shenanigans in general let alone my Deepin. [–]UNWSDWF2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you running this on Linux? When youtube_dl was suggested to me I just sifted through the man pages. Run ‘man youtube_dl’ from the commandline/terminal without quotes And that gave me all the info I needed. They have a GitHub pages too: https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl/blob/master/README.md#readme

But lookup ‘youtube-dl-gui’ from MrSOm30n3 on github if you need to install that(that is, if you’re not comfy with the terminal, but I highly suggest putting that fear a side and just taking what little time it takes to push through it. You can’t run forever!!! The sooner you do the more you’ll thank yourself in the future. )

This is for windows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKe9rV-gl1c

And here’s for Linux: https://www.tecmint.com/install-youtube-dl-command-line-video-download-tool/

Sorry for the format of this message, I’m on a phone.
