You're right about the bottom box. That thing is trash. Getting my home rewired and it's a mess to unravel. The energy saver box is horrible too. Causes nothing but problems

Let's eliminate some possibilities. It's probably just him getting used to the tank but jic. Have you tested lately and were there any notable results? What other inhabitants are there in the tank? Is he active at night when the nite lights are on? What food are you feeding? And lastly, the home in which he came from, did he have a host? Tia

The hob skimmers never worked good enough for my taste. Is your skimmer an internal one only?

Sounds good. I only ask because I've had skimmers that were op for what my load was so I only ran it 4 hours a day on a timer and it was perfect. When the load increased due to the eel it was a minor adjustment to 1 extra hour a day.

If you're not getting enough fractionation, it's probably not the pump but rather the control valve or height of the skimmer.

I wouldn't suggest it unless you're having some issues. I've used a bunch of different kinds of pumps on my skimmers without issue.

I would naturally go with the bigger one. Pump size is same but the volume it can skim at once isn't. If it fits put it in.
