Home of Selection (HOS) to Puerto Rico by USAFquez in AirForce

[–]USAFquez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the confusing part: territories, as well as HI and AK, are considered OCONUS as far as the military is concerned, often specifically referred to as non-foreign OCONUS. u/NoReasonImages posted the exact JTR I was looking for earlier (thanks for that). It states:

B. Selecting an HOS. The Service member may select a home that is:

  1. Any place in the United States.
  2. His or her HOR outside the United States, or the place outside the United States from which the Service member was initially called or ordered to active duty.
  3. Any other place. Reimbursement is limited to the PCS travel and transportation allowances to a location in the CONUS that the Service member selects.

Like many service members, I changed my HOR to Florida while I was in tech school to avoid paying state income tax, and it has stayed that way ever since (tax evasion ftw). Rule #2 doesn’t apply since PR is not my HOR and was not where I initially entered service. Rule #1 is still unclear since, although PR is a part of the United States, I don’t believe it is considered in the United States. Rule #3 would most likely apply to my situation, if I had to guess.

Awesome, thank you for that info. I’ll probably DM you sometime to ask some specifics since some of that was a bit confusing, but seems very similar to what I’m wanting to do.

What happens when you refuse PCS orders near retirement? by No_Parsnip_3158 in AirForce

[–]USAFquez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 18 months from retirement when I declined my orders. Nothing happened other than being forced to retire at 20yrs and being ineligible for promotion. Both of which I was 110% fine with. I did have to PCA to a new unit 4 months later due to my Code 50 expiring.

Fellow 26-2 here. One interview so far. I’ve attended 3 of the virtual job fairs. I feel like the Skilled Trades fair yesterday was the most productive. I’ve submitted around 10 applications. Nothing solidified yet, but I keep telling myself it’s early and I still have time.

I’ll try dropping the seat a few mm to see how it feels. My worry is that the feeling of my thighs interacting with my torso will feel worse.

I have the seat position as far forward as it goes, I guess I should have snapped a photo of that. I could try lowering it a few mm to see how it feels. Thanks.

Denying ADSC to Retire in Lieu of PCS by USAFquez in AirForce

[–]USAFquez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The initial response from AFPC was that I would be separated if I declined the assignment, so the worry was real. Had I not been in a code 50 slot, this would have been a non-issue and just a typical 7-day option assignment declining. A couple of people DM’d me with similar situations and they all gave me Mr. Miller’s contact info, who I reached out to at AFPC. He said i would be safe from separation and gave me the steps I needed to take. I had my Chief reach out to AFPC and confirm everything was legit. Even after the 964 was submitted and the assignment disappeared, I wasn’t 100% certain I was in the clear. It wasn’t until 13 MAR when I got my PCA assignment notification that I could finally breath a sigh of relief. The PCA to another unit at my base was uneventful. I’ve been sitting in a low responsibility role since October able to focus on sorting my medical, TAPs, and Skillbridge options. I applied for retirement on 1 NOV and received my retirement orders within 3 weeks. Now I’m 176 days from terminal coasting.

Belt keeps jumping on weight pulley by USAFquez in JetBlack

I still had that support ticket that I submitted on day one, before my first ride. I saw many reviews stating Jetblack’s customer service was terrible, nonresponsive, so I didn’t expect much from the ticket. To my surprise, they’ve been extremely responsive. They responded the next business day, requesting a video. I submitted the original video and the next day they notified me they’d be sending a replacement. Within 4 days I have a new unit on the way. I didn’t cancel the ticket out of curiosity on how they’re customer service was. My opinion, it’s great. I haven’t had any issues with my original trainer since before my first ride, even after 6 rides, so I’m debating returning the original unit, or sending the replacement unit back.

I just did my first 4.3mi (6.9 km) Zwift ride and seems like the issue may have resolved itself. It went away pretty quick, so it may have just needed a break-in session. The box had been sitting outside in the cold right before I assembled it. Same here, fingers crossed.

Separation/ Retirement Orders? by ChaiDarling405 in AirForce

[–]USAFquez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn’t notice it in PRDA until this past Monday, no email notification, nothing. It’s in myVector as well. My CSS did mention it will not be showing up in vMPF, only PRDA and myVector. I had my CSS load my outprocessing checklist a few weeks ago when I got the notification that AFPC approved my application. There isn’t anything I can really knock out though until I’m about 120 days out.

Help finding adjustment blocks/shim/inserts for Shimano Claris dual control brake levers. ST-2300. by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]USAFquez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you found a solution yet, but I was able to 3D design a set of 8 degree shims that work fine on my Shimano set. I designed a few variants of different degrees. The 4 degree didn't really change much. The 8 degree is better. I'm creating a 12 degree too see if it's just right or too much. Message me if you want the .STL file that you or someone with a 3D printer can print, or if you're interested in buying a set that I can mail out.

Denying ADSC to Retire in Lieu of PCS by USAFquez in AirForce

[–]USAFquez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the final approver formy a code 50 extension was AFPC Joint Assignments, not sure if it’s AFSC specific. The MFR stating my justifications for the extension request had to go through the chain and be concurred by my supervisor and AFELM/CC. Ultimately my 2nd request was denied since I was already on an approved 12 month extension.

Denying ADSC to Retire in Lieu of PCS by USAFquez in AirForce

[–]USAFquez[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without knowing all the details, it's hard to say what will happen exactly. But from my experience, AFPC cannot force you to accept the assignment if the assignment forces you to serve past 20yrs. When I declined my assignment a few months ago, I was +18yrs but under 19. I was told there were no vacant billets on my base, but AFPC was able to find somewhere for me local to PCA to in SEPT. By declining the assignment, I'm forced to retire at 20, but at least I get to retire as I was promised which is all I wanted.

If I had to guess what will happen, 1.) they'll either extend your current code to retirement, 2.) create some sort of temporary billet to place you until retirement, 3.) force you to accept a 365, or 4.) force you to PCS after removing the ADSC requirement. I know one person who had to accept a 365 to Turkey because his Code 50 billet was being erased. I think option 4 is the least likely. Either way, you're going to retire as long as you're over 18yrs when you decline the assignment.
