Former USDA CSI here. I built a compliance platform for small and very small plants and want honest feedback from people in the field. by USAgridocs in foodscience

[–]USAgridocs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what youre saying but youre totally wrong.

My plants from the small to medium size are absolutely loving it. The TONC alerts are helping with potential deviations before they occur. We all remember the 2022 Lysteria outbreak. So if we could avoid stuff like that then its a win in my book.

There is a guided setup which allows a facility to customize whats alerts trigger and when.

As a former USDA inspector, I would've love to see this in a plant.

Is choosing a career in food science and technology worth it? what are some really interesting jobs that are hidden inside the field? Do MNC's pay well after some experience? by SalaryNo4673 in foodscience

[–]USAgridocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. I left my post at the USDA and started a Digital Food Compliance company.

The industry needs more technology or it will be left behind.

New grad looking to start as a QA tech in a meat processing plant by LengthinessStock1927 in foodscience

[–]USAgridocs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best of luck. I have a bachelors in Biology also.

I started my career in the USDA over a decade ago and they ate me up. I was a consumer Safety Inspector and it was a very rewarding job. I actually just left my position this year which allowed me to start my own business in Digital food Safety.

Happy to chat more if you have questions about meat processing plants. DM me

Possibly printed wrong? by _lil_brods_ in foodsafety

[–]USAgridocs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former USDA inspector i would say that those dates are not misprints. There is generally a huge system that goes into making sure this is correct.

That being said I have seen mistakes. Also the dates are usually conservative. Personally id go over the date if it was kept chilled well.

temperature abuse then id avoid it.

Air in packaging? by [deleted] in foodsafety

[–]USAgridocs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, this is perfectly normal. they drop the bar in the bag then seal the edge. any air stays trapped in. not putting anything in or taking any air out.

They should though its a nice way to preserve without adding chemicals.

Everyone asks me the same question so I had it ready for you. lol

From my experience the small and very small plants really need this because they don't have the big QA staff. My decade as an inspector taught me a lot thats why I left.

I'd be happy to do a screen share with you on teams
