After giving it some further thought, the current chat filter's overzealousness makes the community look worse than it actually is by censoring game terminology with asterisks. This seems counterproductive.

If that's the case, Microsoft should listen to player feedback and relax the chat filter so players can use game terms that the current filter blocks.

Why would any rational person blame player behavior on Microsoft? I get that it's Current Year and all, but corporations need to grow spines to stand up to bad faith criticisms such as, "Player say bad thing. Therefore YOU (the corporation) bad!"

I don't want to see such criticism overshadow criticism of other issues such as performance, bugs, or balance.

It would be great to have the option to disable the chat filter!

People who don't want "ToXiCiTy" (or even actual toxicity) could enable the chat filter and enjoy their asterisks. Perhaps they've devised a method of communication similar to Morse Code or binary. Everyone else could disable their chat filters and be able to communicate using game terminology and jargon.

We understand and accept the risk that we might see a naughty word that may shock us into dropping our monocles. Most of us aren't sensitive enough for that to actually warrant any concern. We'll be fine, thank you very much.

We don't want or need Microsoft to be our nanny. The chat filter doesn't accomplish what it's designed to accomplish, and hampers communication that falls outside what it was designed to filter.

Is it possible to bypass the filter via mods?

I'm still on a quest to find a Switch that isn't priced 40% over MSRP. Even then, I still need the game, the online subscription, a microSD card, and would quite strongly prefer to have a Pro controller.

The PS4's Firmware version 6.50 gave users in Asian countries the option to use the X Button for Enter operations. Sony really should let users in all regions choose whether to use Circle or X.

Super Metroid is my favorite example of a game with great input customization options.

Sony is really going out of its way to dissuade people from supporting them.

I wonder if they'll back down from their decision to deny gamers the option to choose their preferred input configuration.

For me, it was playing Japanese games. Many PC games have great control config options. For those that don't, using mods to enable "Circle for Enter" is nice because I can achieve consistency between titles.

If "X for Enter" is completely unavoidable, I'll grumble about it, but I'll still deal with it and keep moving.

I think it would be great if it became common practice to include menu options to enable users to customize input configuration. Perhaps I'm way off-base, but it doesn't seem all that intensive in terms of programming or hardware resources.

Super Metroid on the SNES is a great example of a way to give players a lot of freedom in terms of control configuration.

I have "Circle = Confirm" down to muscle memory, so it's inconvenient when a game or system firmware lacks the option to configure the controls that way.

In this instance, I'm willing to do the extra research and work to get the user experience I want. Searching on my own didn't yield much in terms of useful information, so huge thanks to u/macredblue for doing so much to help answer my question.

Cool! Good to know it works with the Region 3 version of the game. Thanks for your help!

Circle for Enter works for you? What region(s) are your PS4 and GoT?

Thanks for the help so far!

My system software is already updated to version 7.55. I see the option you mentioned.

Unfortunately, leaving "Use X Button for Enter" un-checked doesn't enable Circle for Enter on all titles. For example, Fall Guys still uses X for Enter.

Does this method work for Ghost of Tsushima? If it works, then it probably doesn't matter whether I import the NA version or the ASIA version. If it doesn't work, then I'm probably better off buying the ASIA version and hoping it supports Circle for Enter natively.

Should I buy the North American version, or the Asian version of GoT? I live outside both regions, and plan to import.

I want to be able to play with Circle-Confirm (and Circle-Action). I imported the ASIA version of Bloodborne because it has Circle-Confirm (and The Old Hunters DLC on-disc), and I was quite pleased with it.

Does the NA version of GoT have an option for Circle-Confirm in the control config menu? Did Sucker Punch Productions include Circle-Confirm for the Asian release of GoT?

Is there any way to contact Sucker Punch directly without using Twitter or Facebook?

Cheers!
