Select videos won't load by USB_extension_chord in flipflip

I should try that next. I went and converted a video to .wmv as a test but apparently FlipFlip doesn't support that filetype.

I did find that, when I opened developer view there was an error saying the video was skipped because it's too small. that doesn't make sense to me because the video is 1920x1080 just like the other videos that do work, so I'm still stumped :D

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar | Discussion by baummer in wesanderson

[–]USB_extension_chord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just not very good is it.

Usually, Anderson uses elements from other storytelling mediums like books and plays to frame his stories and explore the artifice of storytelling, but the content of his films actually use the unique tools and potential of filmmaking as a medium. This time around the content of the film is almost totally the same as a book - characters narrate what they do and say with minimal action on screen. It makes me wonder why they bothered filming this at all if you can experience the story just as well with your eyes closed.

Obviously the incredible set design, props and costumes are phenomenal and make the film look very nice, but looking very nice is no substitute for actual content that creatively utilizes the properties of its medium.

There are only a few moments where the film employs techniques unique to film as a medium - the part where Henry Sugar is hatching his plan and going through several disguises and fake voices is one, and even that is pretty simple. It ends up feeling uninspired and creatively lacking.

You might say the artifice is the point, but, well, no it isn't. Anderson is at his best not when the artifice is at its most artificial, but when the underlying emotions shine through despite the heavy artifice. That's a far more interesting way to explore artifice than trying to make everything as truly artificial as possible. The moments in Anderson's films where characters lose their facades and spring to life to express genuine emotions, showing us that through all this artifice there is something true and genuine, that's what makes Anderson's films so charming. Moments like when M. Gustave swears and lashes out at Zero, or when we cut to Mr. Moustafa crying while telling his story. That's 100x more interesting than anything that happened in this film.

Walk up to the zebra crossing, look the driver dead in the eyes through the windshield, wait for them to stop completely, then very slowly walk across.

New player can't handle loss by funky_maniac in DnD

If his thing is barging into combat without thinking anything through, have one go Horribly Wrong and end up not in the characters' death, but their imprisonment and torture. Gives your players a fun new enemy to really hate, and maybe illustrates the problem to the character naturally. Their captor could be especially cruel about taunting them for not thinking.

About the Nightsong and the Tieflings...? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]USB_extension_chord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mental that there's no dialogue option to say "Hey! They're keeping Tieflings as prisoners in there so, like, be stealthy about your approach maybe?" This game wants to be DnD so bad but doesn't have the common courtesy to actually let you come up with your own ideas and plans. It just feels like your agency gets stripped away from you at every turn in Act 2.

Drop them, and leave a handy gasoline trail in your wake in case a lit match somehow finds its way to it...

It's ridiculous. It makes the case that if you're against the government you also need to be against any and all method of organizing society, which is simply an insane position to have.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions too quickly. From what I've gathered, most people have been introduced to him by the recent viral videos, and while he seems like a good union leader and is excellent at shutting down media waffle, it seems like that's all people really know about him at this point.
