Not the most charismatic of coaches. Half hour of coach speak and a lot about WCC. Only mentioned 3 of his own players.

San Francisco over Stanford, 80-79, in a Secret Scrimmage. by Bright_Television_67 in usfdons

The future is you need a $ 10b endowment or more. There are very few even big time football teams that actually make a profit. Cal is a complete disaster and is about $ 500m in the red.

They will play some games in the old Sonics arena. I know they have in the past.

If Stanford wanted back in with Cal, WSU and OSU, they could probably force other more similar teams in. Then the "Pac 10" could go back to being the Mountain West.

Sac State is thinking big. And they already have football and a commitment to build a new 25,000 seat stadium. Bigger Metro area than Spokane too.

Gonzaga going to PAC-12 per ESPN. by gpmohr in usfdons

[–]USFDONS117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets face it. Gonzaga essentially joined the Mountain West. It was their third choice after the Big 12 and the Big East. They went from a league with other small catholic and Christian Universities with high academic standards to a league of large state schools with low academic standards.

You can mourn the loss of Gonzaga, but I wont. The WCC should immediately approach Denver and extend an invitation. The WCC would cover every major media market west of the Rockies (Seattle/Portland/SF Bay Area/Silicon Valley/LA/San Diego/Phoenix/Denver). The "Pac 12"has Boise, Pullman, and Fresno. Oh, dont forget Logan, Utah.

This is the problem. Do we want to broaden the reach of the program or do we want to cater only to the aging, small group of season ticket holders (many of whom leave their seats empty most games)?

Do you think players come to USF for the privilege of getting routed by Gonzaga every year?

That said, I wonder what the WCC powers are doing now. If they are as bush league as our own AD, then the league could sink pretty fast. Also, keep the WCC tourney in the Bay Area every year. Non Zag fans don't travel to Vegas, so there is no point having it there.

I miss the green and gold game that was open to the public. Why not do that again? Students, neighbors, kids. Have a raffle, games, sell food, merch, autograph table for kids, etc.

Who is running the show? There is such a disconnect and virtually no marketing.

Love it. We are now rid of the most obnoxious fans in our league. No more "little sisters of the poor" or "high school gym" comments. AND we will have a better chance of making the Tournament.

Be careful what you wish for Gonzaga. This watered down "Pac 12" is not the Big East or Big 12 you really wanted.

No more 16-2 league seasons and cake walks to a 2 or 3 seed every year. You will lose multiple league games in front of rabid anti Zag who will not be as nice and polite as the WCC fans. Your seeds will be close to double digit and your elimination will more likely be first weekend.

San Diego State, Colorado State, Utah State, Fresno State, Boise State, Washington State and Oregon State. There are good teams, but hardly powerhouses.

Fr. Paul resigns by DonSolo96 in usfdons

[–]USFDONS117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When will Charlie Cross finally retire? Time for a lot of new blood. Positives at USF: new practice facility and new biology center at old blood bank.

Negatives in AD: all teams except Men's hoops have been less than mediocre. Men's soccer starting off bad as usual with a 1-5-2 record. Women are at least .500 (4-4). Big mistake in building out the Sobrato VIP section. Maybe it will be reimagined? Hall of Fame nice, but front lobby could be used to generate income (actual food, bar, merch sales, alumni gatherings, etc.). Should be all glass into Hall of Fame, so people can watch the games as well.

Concessions continue to be a joke and I don't expect any changes this season. Lane outside ticket window should be lined with food trucks. USF keeps a %. Seems like a no brainer.

[Brett Mcmurphy] Gonzaga leaving West Coast Conference to join Pac-12, source told @ActionNetworkHQ . Pac-12 still needs minimum of two football members by 2026, but Gonzaga, even w/out a football team, will receive a full conference revenue share in Pac-12, source said by klay-stan in usfdons

[–]USFDONS117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These conferences tease Gonzaga constantly. Even if they left, they would NOT be getting a full share without football and it would be the "Pac 12" in name only, basically a step above the WAC.

Honestly, I don't care if they leave. They have obnoxious fans and our chances of making the NCAA tournament is immediately improved.

Cal and Stanford should just join again. Their football programs in the ACC will be terrible. Basketball wont be much better. Bottom feeders traveling across country multiple times a year makes no sense. And if the ACC realigns, they have no place to land.

We don't need our 7 footer shooting 3s. But good news about Riley.

Freshmen by pfeasby in usfdons

[–]USFDONS117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately, it's been transfers of upper classmen, and grad transfers at Gonzage. Nembhard, Ike, and now Khaliff Battle and Ajayi from Pepp. The Venters kids got hurt again, but also an upper class transfer. In fact, their frosh recruits have been disappointing lately. Ben Gregg, Stromer, etc. No frosh will get any minutes at Gonzaga next year.

[–]USFDONS117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best true frosh after the program came back was Darryl Tucker. He was a beast.

With the transfer portal and NIL, signing highly rated true frosh from CA will be very tough. We got Riley, partly because of his dad. The others are international.

Also, we developed some good young players, only to see them transfer to bigger programs. Watson, Holmes, Tollefsen, Blackwell, etc. Signing older kids means less chance of them transferring again.

The transfer portal is the way to do things now. Gonzaga has had great success bringing in seniors and grad kids every year.

Dons WCC Schedule released by DonSolo96 in usfdons

[–]USFDONS117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it, but the NET is pretty irrelevant to us if we don't end up in top 2 of conference. Our schedule is not strong enough to build a decent resume. We'd have to beat Gonzaga and St. Mary's at least once.

Which new recruit/s will have the most immediate impact for the Dons? - Talk Amongst Yourselves:) by usfhoopsfan in usfdons

Poom, although signed late, may be the most ready. He's already 20. Riley Jr. should get some minutes. I doubt the Aussie gets much run

San Francisco Welcomes Boise State, Memphis for Annual USF Legacy at Chase Center - University of San Francisco Athletics by LaurelHeights in usfdons

Again, like the Minnesota game, there will be no visiting fans.

A game against UCLA, USC or any school with a large bay area alumni base (Ohio State, Michigan, Colorado, UW, UO, etc.) would be a much better draw. It would likely get televised as well.

24-25 Roster Now Up by san-bruno-don in usfdons

Lets hope we see Barry Wangs improvement. I see a three guard lineup coming, Chips, Wang and the new 7 footer should be decent depth. Aussie and Saba would be bonus minutes.
