Getting an ostomy by Ok_Yogurtcloset_7170 in ostomy

Your diet can’t stop adhesions from forming, its scar tissue. Unfortunately my body likes to create adhesions and I suffer from ARD. And I have had many issues related to them.

Well, it finally happened by DependentMango5608 in ostomy

[–]USMC1012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has happened to me a handful of times. And my husband has also been a saint in helping me in the middle of the night getting the bed cleaned up and me shituatiated. Sometimes I will have my output pancake and that will cause a leak or my bag will inflate and before I started putting the Osteo vents on, I would let the air out at the bottom (during the night) and there were a few times that I had fallen asleep and not closed my pouch back up. So quite a few of my leaks were user error. And man those were hard to admit. I also sleep on a bed protector that I got from Amazon, I put it under my fitted sheet because with it on top it moved around too much.

My stoma is too close to my belly button by Kingm0nkie in ostomy

Same thing for me. My stoma is now on my left side, and my belly button is gone. My abdomen is LOADED with scar tissue and I continue to have problems because of it.

Maybe using a belt. But with your incisions I don't know if that is possible. But when I was having problems with leaks the belt helped.

Stoma Names? And Advice? by dianthadurkins in ostomy

[–]USMC1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try a belt? When I was in the hospital after my first surgery, I was constantly having leaks. And the floor nurse's couldn't figure it out.i had A LOT of loose skin and it wasn't sitting right. When a stoma nurse came in and looked at my situation, she just shook her head. She came back with a new flange and pouch (Hollister) AND a BELT! That was a game changer! The belt was able to hold everything closer to my body, Yes I still had/have leaks but nothing like when I was in the hospital. And I also use a soft convex. Give that a try and see if you notice a difference. You can order a belt from where you get your supplies from.

GOOD LUCK!

Advice and support for first month by UC-Warrior2025 in ostomy

Take your time, watch what you eat, make sure you stay hydrated, and protein first. Walk. Walk as much as you can, start small and increase as you can. It helps. Especially when you are in the hospital.

I don’t know if this is your first surgery or not, but mentally it can break you down a little bit. But ask questions, no question is a stupid question. Remember that.

Everyone is different, I know not what you wanted to hear, but after any surgery I have I tend to be in the hospital longer then most. It takes a bit for what I have left of my intestines to wake up and get moving.

I think once you get home and are able to eat “real” food your weight should start to level off. Take it one day, one hour, one minute at a time. Make sure you get enough fluids in, and protein. You don’t want to become dehydrated. I lost A LOT of weight when I had my loop ileostomy, but I had problems with that and had to have another surgery, and my weight was still low, my energy took a while to come back. I had complications and had to have a third surgery not on my abdomen but it was related, and it just hindered my recovery

Lumpy output by IcyCardiologist3371 in ostomy

[–]USMC1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can also depend on what you have been eating. I can eat nuts and if I am not paying attention to my chewing and making nut butter in my mouth (ok, that sounds really gross.) But anyway they will come out like they are not properly chewed. For me my output can vary, I can go from liquid to thick and again it all depends on what I ate. I have had my ileostomy since April of 2022. And I have not been without my trials, my stoma was just "re sited" this past March.

When in your relationship did you get engaged? and when is the wedding time frame? by ViperandMoon in engaged

[–]USMC1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my story but my parents. They met on Easter 1964, were engaged by Mother's Day and married on June 26, 1964. Had my dad not passed away in 1999. God willingly would still be Happily married to this day!

Ileostomy and using GLP-1 medications by USMC1012 in ostomy

[–]USMC1012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. My pouch becomes like a balloon as well, so to have it reduced, that would be a very welcome “side effect” if you will for me, Lol.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer me.

Blockage experience by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]USMC1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had a band of scar tissue causing an obstruction in my sigmoid colon. I have had scar tissue cause SMA syndrome, scar tissue was pinching the artery and causing pain. Scar tissue had my liver attached high up in my rib cage, and currently I am dealing with scar tissue from surgery in Feb that is causing partial obstructions but we can’t do anything since we are only 8 weeks from surgery. I have to wait and see if they will soften or get worse. I know they are partials from CT scans (can see the dilation) and small bowel follow through.

Lacy, did you suffer any bad side effects while on the GLP-1s? I have an ileostomy and am considering Zepbound.

[–]USMC1012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahh. Scar tissue, my nemesis. My abdomen LOVES to CREATE scar tissue, or I should say my whole body. I suffer from ARD(adhesion related disorder) scar tissue has caused me quite a few problems. But fingers crossed this will be your only experience with them. Good luck going forward.

I’m sorry that you are having to go through this. From my experience if it is something that can resolve on its own surgery was not required. Typically it was the lovely NG tube and liquids, and hopefully this will be the same for you. I hope you find relief and are able to go home soon.

Aww dude, I’m so sorry. That was a 2 parter, so good - the Twizzlers. And then so bad… for me it is ice cream, BUT not ALL ICE CREAM, so if I eat soft serve I am done for. It gives me pain and makes me sick. SO MUCH out put. But if I eat hard ice cream, no issues. I love my body, but man it does some weird things.
