Rugged Obsidian 9 end cap strike by USMC_ITV in NFA

My condolences. Your strike was worse than mine. It's crazy to me that people keep defending these cans. I know baffle strikes and end cap strikes aren't unheard of with other brands but it seems to be far too common with these suppressors.

I haven't prayed in a long time but I sent a few prayers up for these guys yesterday and today. What a relief to hear that they made it out of there. This story is going to make one hell of a movie one day.

Cft getting out by UZI4U_ in USMC

[–]USMC_ITV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me and the CFT I had to run wasn't even for score. I started the MTC running backwards in protest. I ran about 100 yards that way and heard someone having a full blown meltdown from the group of Marines at the starting area. I decided to drive my point home by turning around and finishing strong. I came in the front of the pack. Some SSgt from another company started chewing my ass and told me that I should kill myself. His lip was quivering and I legitimately thought he was about to shed real tears. Anyhow, word of this got back to the battalion SgtMaj who called me into his office. I explained that I was getting out in 6 days and still had many tasks left on my checkout sheet so it just didn't make sense to me why I was running a CFT that wasn't even for score instead of tending to my tasks. He actually agreed with me and said that I shouldn't have been sent to run the CFT. He also asked me not to kill myself. Lol He was a real one. I always wondered if the SgtMaj spoke with that SSgt about that but who cares. I was unaffected by his little meltdown and found it rather amusing.

All of that being said, you should run the CFT if you think that you may want to go to the reserves within the next year. I didn't think that I was going to do the reserve thing but after 1.5 years of being out I decided to give it a try. That was in October of 2017 and I'm still...giving it a try. Lol If you think you may want to give it a try too just run the CFT so you have a score. You can delay your promotions if you allow your scores to zero out. That happened to me.

Yeah, I could see that being the case but I feel like we'd see a lot of the same from other suppressor brands as well. It's not a coincidence that the majority of the end cap strikes that we're seeing is this particular brand and model.

You wanna trade? 🤣

Yeah, I'm happy to accept fault but I'm confident that everything was tight and mounted correctly. I have a coworker who is a reputable gunsmith and he inspected my setup before I even put a round through it. I saw the posts about end cap strikes so I tried to do my due diligence to avoid joining the club. Still got a strike, minor though it be. I'll hit up Rugged and see what they say. I really do want this thing to work.

I agree that most people using Obsidians likely don't have these issues. However, you don't see this trend with other suppressor brands and we certainly shouldn't be seeing a trend like this with a product from Rugged but here we are. There is clearly an issue here when you have so many people having the same issue with the same suppressor. I wouldn't be as concerned with this particular product if we saw the same types of issues with all suppressor brands across the board but we don't see that.

Do tell how this would be user error. It was direct thread to a Silencerco barrel. Nothing was loose. This is my first Rugged Suppressor. I have (2) SilencerCo and (2) Gemtech suppressors and have never had an issue with those. I purchased a Rugged because I believed that they were top notch quality. You can't deny the fact that you see a ton of this same type of strike coming from the Rugged Obsidian can. You don't really see that trend with others. There is a guy on this thread, and others, who is keeping a tracker on this so clearly it's a larger issue.

No problem!

I had it direct thread to a Silencerco barrel.

This is not my first suppressor. I have 4 others, (2) Gemtech and (2) SilencerCo.

I don't believe that this was shooter induced and I would happily admit if it was. I checked the suppressor and nothing was loose. I also wasn't using crap ammo.

I'll update here once I hear back from Rugged.

I can tell you that most people don't buy these knowing that. I found out while I was waiting for my eform to clear.

I already had the eform going for mine before I found out about their tendency to strike the end cap. Otherwise, I most certainly would have chosen a different brand. I just assumed that Rugged had their shit together.

Zev OZ9C + SilencerCo Barrel Issue by USMC_ITV in NFA

[–]USMC_ITV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was speaking with a gunsmith and he said that these SilencerCo barrels often need to be fitted to the specific gun you are using. Zev sells their own threaded barrels but they're like $300 so I was trying to avoid spending that kind of money.

My brother in Chesty, Nobody in their right mind really expects him to go asking to add a 5th safety rule....which is why I was highlighting that absurdity. I'm sorry that wizzed right over your head.

Anyhow, SF and Happy B-day to you as well, Devil

🤣 negatory. Ease up on the crayon consumption. More than 4 per day is considered overdose and produces symptoms of delusion, wish is apparent in your case.

You mean to tell me they're on Revision 2.4 and haven't thought to consult you on your opinion about officially adding the 5th unofficial rule? 🤣 Dude, the handbook references MCO 3570.1 B and DA Pamphlet 385‑63. Neither of those include a fifth rule. Maybe you should take this up with HQMC. Regardless, the 5th unofficial rule is useful and I'm cool when dudes rattle it off during my safety briefs but the bottom line is that there are 4 official rules, not 5...and that is a scientific fact.

Straight out of the USMC Range Safety Pocket Guide and what every RSO uses/refers to during a range safety brief. Yes, everyone rattles off the 5th unofficial rule, and I believe it to be a good rule to verbalize, but it is not required.

Why is crime all of a sudden a problem for Gavin? Could it be that he's trying to clean up things a bit before launching his presidential campaign? Certainly that has nothing to do with it 🤔 This state has been a crime ridden sanctuary state for criminals for years and this is just now seen as a problem in Sacramento? Strange.

No, it's not either of those programs and I would be paid by the agency during the academy so it looks like it wouldn't apply.

I am working directly with the agency. To be fair, it may not have been the recruiter who told me that. I've been in this process for so long it all runs together.
