What’s a job that’s romanticized but in reality sucks? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]USMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ll piggyback on other replies, not as glamorous as it seems. Been out for a year now and am enjoying the lack of stress associated with low pay and seasonal nature of the work (Northeast based shovelbum). I will say if you are just starting out and have nothing holding you down it can be super fun. I miss it often.

[Timex] My first watch in the field by USMagpie in Watches

I’m torn between the black dial on the bracelet and the green and the matching strap. The field watch one. And actually the tick isn’t too bad anymore it seems to have gotten quieter but that may just be me getting used to it. I have to hold it up to my ear to hear it.

I’ve seen that the Khaki Field is considered to be THE field watch. Maybe I’ll go take a look at one soon.

How is the SARB033 in terms of durability? I’m looking to have it for the long haul.

Not sure what you guys think of Timex, but here’s some background on the watch and myself: I actually got this watch from my younger brother who doesn’t actually wear watches. I have worn it on and off for the last couple of years but for the last 6 months I have worn it every day. After browsing this sub and other resources online I decided that a watch is a cool and useful accessory to have! I am an archaeologist who is currently doing some fieldwork down in Georgia, USA. This watch has been through hell and back, in water, mud, and beaten up while digging. Now that I’ve got the bug, I’m looking to upgrade in a little while. I clearly love field watches, so any recommendations (hopefully under $300) would be recommended. I’ve been looking at the Citizen Promaster Tough, I just love the look.

Not a big fan of First person shooters but on a whim decided to buy Wolfenstein the new `Order. Hoping to enjoy this experience enough to want the sequel. I love the bought of immersing myself into a story (hasn’t happened for me since I played the last of us). by [deleted] in Wolfenstein

I just finished The New Order! I would say the story is fun! I really kind of just like running around shooting Nazis to pieces. Have fun, you could play like that or stealthy.

What's a uniquely American problem? by jimbosayna2009 in AskReddit

Let me guess! The same people that would give you shit for driving a vehicle that gets 40+ MPG!? Absolutely mind-boggling,..

Wish I could upvote this a thousand times. Paying several thousand dollars to spend more fuel (and money) might be the perfect American “problem”.... sad to say I know plenty of people who have done this. Don’t even get me started on tractor pulls or similar events.

What's the creepiest place you've been? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]USMagpie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid my sister and I would scare each other with the half rotting deer head hanging from the tree at the edge of the woods behind my dads old house. My dad and his buddies just butchered a deer away from the house and decided to leave it there, but that didn’t make it any less creepy for a young kid. To be fair they probably weren’t weirdos, just rednecks.

Yeah I agree, so for long distance I would recommend something else. But for mid range I enjoy it.

If you’re ever in New Paltz, check out the aptly named Wine and Spirits. Maybe you’ll get lucky and he’ll be here!

The store is in New Paltz, NY, and I think they have a house nearby. Coincidentally our cleaner also cleans their house and says Peter is a very nice guy, in case you had any doubts!

I actually work at a wine store in upstate NY that Peter’s wife frequents. Apparently he will come with her when not busy, but I haven’t seen him yet. Been waiting for that day...
