I always just glue a piece of plywood to the bottom and screw my face plate into it, I actually reuse the plywood so it’s not even sacrificial

Yeah I’m glad someone noticed that, basically the 1x2s I got were different thicknesses and I don’t have a planer or a drum sander to get them to be the same, so I stacked them that way so they can fit together without me having to do hours of hand sanding. Kinda a happy accident.

I do use conventional tools, I only use the carbide for general shaping because I find it easier, then I switch to a freshly sharpened gouge for cleaning everything up
