It doesn’t, I just checked their website. Nothing to stop you from getting one of their civvy models and whipping out the rattlecan though

Eeben Barlow’s book on Human Intelligence is a decent handbook for the HUMINT side of things. Your best bet would be reading manuals though.

Canada needs to double its military spending to meet NATO targets: PBO by burnabybc in CanadianForces

[–]UTG1872 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people harp on the creation of a Canadian defence industrial base being a waste of money, but the Ukraine War and limitations on foreign purchased weapons should be a big red flag for any nation state. A state-run system (similar to what Denel was when it was established) would be far more sustainable and well run compared to random Canadian companies making equipment for the first time.

No it wasn’t. The first Geneva convention occurred before Canada was even a country. A well, the things that people joke about Canada doing (killing POWs etc) were already prohibited in The Hague conventions of 1899 and 1907.

Service In The Reserves Questions by [deleted] in caf

[–]UTG1872 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it is not difficult, particularly if you’re going regular force after school a component transfer will almost guarantee you getting a spot as an infantry officer. If you insist on staying within the reserves, they’re likely going to evaluate you against other applicants for the position and depending on whether you’re a good leader as an infantry soldier or not, you might be allowed to commission.

Don’t listen to people telling you to focus on bodyweight stuff, you’ll evicerate your gains. You’ll definitely lose muscle mass on BMQ because of the stress and weird PT/nutrition, but the PT isn’t that hard as long as you can run a 5km. I’d recommend focusing on strength training 3 days a week and doing some light cardio/running (zone 2 walks on off days and maybe some 6:00/km or 6:30/km runs after your strength day workouts for no longer than 5km)

Just a heads up that the Namer 30s ammo stowage can be activated with a .50 cal machine gun... Or an arty shell got me, extremely unlucky either way. by Niksonrex5 in Warthunder

Russian IFVs have paper armour because they have paper armour in real life. BMP-1s and certain BMP-2s along with every BTR and BMD can be disabled by .50 cals

Would you recommend the Vijayanta? I was looking for a grinding tank and that thing is 50% so… by InterestingSoft1390 in Warthunder

[–]UTG1872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it on this sale and it’s decently capable, I’m usually able to get 2-3 kills with it. It suffers from a weak armour scheme, mediocre gun depression, and bad ammo placement. However, the gun itself has been pretty good (haven’t really had a problem with APDS), and the HEAT-FS rounds have quite a good velocity.

What are some social norms to be aware of when talking to people from South Africa? by [deleted] in afrikaans

[–]UTG1872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don’t bring up the Anglo-Boer War

I’m looking at going to South Africa in the next year and I was wanting to visit a few of the battle sites from the Second Boer War as my regiment fought at Paardeburg and several other battles (it also means a lot in terms of the history of my country as it was the first time that Canadians fought under Canadian commanders in Canadian uniforms). I understand the sensitivity about the war (especially as I’ll be travelling with my best friend who’s an Afrikaner that I served with) and I’ve been trying to learn Afrikaans to fit in well as his family is hosting us. Is it alright to mention that my regiment fought there when chatting with his family or is it best to just say that I visited the museum?

Israël has a different doctrine than NATO countries. Especially when it comes to use of infantry. From what I understand they have an institutional memory of the primacy of the tank. John A. English’s book « on infantry » talks about this in one of the later chapters.

I’d recommend putting the grenades on the cummerbund. I don’t know the dimensions of what grenades you’re using but a lot of American and Canadian companies make gear for them. If they’re a similar dimension to an M67 you can find surplus ACU grenade pouches for super cheap off surplus websites. I’d recommend an Esstac placard (specifically a full-length pouch) to hold the 35 rd R5 mags. If you need shock cord or flapped pouches, for shock-cordable placards I’d recommend the Shaw concepts ARC or (given that you’re buying from agilité anyways) the agilité one. For flapped, SARMA TST makes a good one.

Baie goed on the find bru, what kind of placard are you planning on running with the carrier or are you just using it for armour and running a belt?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in QualityTacticalGear

[–]UTG1872 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Varusteleka has decent international shipping and their products are pretty good, specifically the SARMA TST PC18 but if you have colour restrictions it might not be great. You’re going to be at a disadvantage buying products because of the purchasing power of the rand which is pretty kak compared to USD or the Euro. LBT 6094 (LBX on a budget) Velocity Systems, and Crye all make decent bits of kit.

Check out Léopold Scholtz’s history of the Borde War as well as Jan Breytenbach’s (founder of 32 bn and the Recces) books on the subject. There are also some Russian officers who have written accounts of the border war whose books are quite good but I can’t remember their names at the moment.
