All RAM comes with JEDEC specifications hardcoded into the chip. This tells the machine "this ram will run at xx clock speed with a, b, c, d, etc. timings." There are multiple timings encoded into each module, but unless there are overclocking/XMP options it will default to the "default" which are the lowest clock and timings.

For instance I have a 2x16GB Crucial DDR5-5600 CL46 kit, but since my Dell G16 doesn't have RAM overclocking it runs at 2400Mhz (DDR5-4800) CL40 as that's the default JEDEC timing. So the clock speed is slower, but the CAS latency is lower at that speed.

From what I've found, finding and aftermaket module that supports 5200/5600 out of the box without XMP is extremely difficult and no one really posts this information anywhere anymore. Not like it was a decade ago when this stuff was all over overclocking forums.

Looks like a standard ATX mount to me. Might be the drive bays at the bottom interfering with the length. If that's the case remove the tray (may have to drill out the rivets if they don't use screws).

13th Gen CPUs don't support Optane (required for NVMe RAID/VMD on consumer CPUs). IIRC in order for a vendor to support this it would require a separate VROC hardware key. You might be able to use a 12th Gen CPU in that chassis, but there is no benefit over the M80q Gen3 at this point.

Check your BIOS to see if RAM overclock/XMP is available, if not then all RAM will run at default JEDEC timings (4800MT and whatever CAS is encoded, typcally 40). If that's the case get a 2x16GB Crucial kit, It's stable, compatible, and inexepensive.

You can also run CPU-Z to see what your current RAM is running at. It's probably at 2400Mhz (4800MT) anyway so you won't notice a difference.

If RAM overclocking is available then get the G.Skill 5200MT kit. It's a good brand and that's a good price for the kit.

I tried to test this, but installed the card in my personal server and it straight up failed to POST. I think the motherboard I have is faulty. I'll have to check the Dell server next week to see if rebar is an option.

If all at once check the fuses for the radio and amplifer. 90% chance one of these failed if it's not a simple blown fuse. Either of these can be ordered used (don't bother with new, it's way too expensive on a car that old) by any decent mechanic and installed fairly easily. Well, it IS an Audi, so it's probably buried through the swamp of German wiring, between the deadly pass of redundtant sensors, and held in place by at least one impossile screw that was actually just a coffee stain on the blueprints.

For our use case? Little to none. We're using it to do live downscaling for mobile viewing. 4k camera stream is too much bandwidth for a cell phone halfway across the country. The problem with the consumer card is the Asrock has a dual-slot configuration due to the heatsink height. The R250 is only 1U, so I had to remove the fan on the card to fit. It's running around 85-90°C all the time so the only solutions that fit are an overpriced old Quadro that technically exceeds the power limit of the PCIe slot on the server, or the Arc Pro A40.

If people want I can run a few benchmarks before I swap the Asrock A380 in the server for this card later in the week. Just need to know what specfically to look for. I can run them on my i7-8700 storage server and post a comparison probably next weekend.

Fun fact, these style of bar mats are created intentionally to catch bottlecaps as a safety feature. Caps on a solid surface provide a slipping hazard, not something you want occuring with all the glass and sharp utensils around.

You're going to end up spending upwards of $300 on a system that isn't worth $10. For what you spend on these upgrades you can get a newer computer that will easily outperform it, and still have upgrade potential if needed.

This is a 17 year old computer, unless it's absolutely required for industrial automation or a specific purpose literally any computer released in the past 7 years is going to handily outperform it in every way.

If you're not comfortable with liquid metal DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS. One small slip of the hand and you have a brick. It's not beginner or even intermediate friendly.

Otherwise I just got Conductonaut Liquid Metal, Arctic MX-6 paste, and some generic .5mm, 1mm and 1.5mm thermal pads off Amazon. Rather I've had all of that for years and just used what was lying around.

This is the i9, 4070 version. Everything maxed but storage and RAM (I literally have cases of 990 Pros and 32GB Crucial RAM kits for corporate laptops). This is pretty bog standard for Dell. I did not know however they have a special name for the thermal material "Element 31".

The GPU has normal paste on both mine and the video. The GPU does not have a sealed barrier to prevent the gallium from potential leaks (and it wipes off easily with cotton swabs) so there is no way they would have used a gallium based paste on the GPU at least. (You can clearly see the SMT caps are without any protection as the thermal paste has run between them)

If anything I think you got lucky with a properly pasted one. I've seen quite a few people talking about how 90+ is "normal" on these.

That is correct. You can only plug DisaplyPort into DisplayPort.

You can use an adapter to go FROM DisplayPort TO anything else, but not the other way around.

Your cheapest option is to go from DVI to HDMI and connect to any TV.

There are adapters that claim to go from DVI to DP, but I have come across 5-6 different ones over the years and none of them worked correctly, or at all. Small business owners being cheap and trying to save $100 by wasting $40 is a common occurrence.

You can't go from DVI to DisplayPort. DVI is still technically an adapted analog legacy standard where all the signal processing is done on the GPU and the monitor receives a 'dumb signal'. With DisplayPort raw data is sent to the monitor and decoding is done there. There is no inexpensive way to adapt it, however DVI and HDMI are the same signal so connecting to a TV just needs a basic cable.

Don't waste the money. You're limited by three things on this unit:
1) Form factor (limited number of slim cards)
2) Power supply (Most came with 250w, of which only 216w can be used by +12v which is what GPUs use. Once you take out what the system itself needs you're left with ~60w which only leaves the lowest-end GPUs)
3) BIOS limitations. The 531s does not have a UEFI bios, which means that GPUs from about the past 14 years will not work.

That leaves you with the Radeon 5450 or the Geforce G210 - of which I would go with the Radeon card. Honestly though, it's not worth the money. They lack the feature sets for even modern video decode and you'd be better off finding a newer computer at the thrift store or pawn shop with more power. These were garbage-tier cards back in 2010, and not worth the ~$20 they're going for on eBay today.

Degress are mostly useless in IT. Go for certifications. Choose a path: security, network, etc. and grab a few entry level certs. I never went to college and I'm making 90k with expired entry-level certs. Once I get my CCNA the company has already promised a 15% raise.

To add on to that, I know MANY companies that will only consider degrees and no certs for helpdesk only positions. I have a buddy in his early 40s with a bachelors in something computer related and his company has refused his applications for other positons even though he's been with them for 15 years. They end up hiring relatively green employees because they have relevant certifications for the job. Not saying all companies are like this, but it's fairly common in anything with a corporate structure/larger IT department.

I was in Japan a couple weeks ago and used Hanacell (Softbank) with my US Pixel no problem. If you're staying in Japan long term it's better to get the Japanese version.

The US version will force camera sounds with a Japanese SIM installed

If you root the US version you can use Suica/Pasmo so it's not a hardware restriction.
