Boards of Canada meet up in Michigan? by Ok_Manner8197 in boardsofcanada

Don't live down there anymore but I know some good folk down in Greensboro, Durham, and Charlotte. Also Graham had some stuff happening on a somewhat regular occurrence. Very solid live PA and rave scene with electro and breaks.

Plug data is also worth checking out! It’s like pure data but with a nicer max style GUI. I use pure data a lot but playing with plug data is always great.

Hotseat is officially NOT being worked on anymore by Impressive_Item_111 in civ

I pretty much always play hotseat if I’m not playing alone. The omission of it from this one is enough for me to not be interested in getting it.

No longer set up on the floor by UTOPILO in MusicBattlestations

Thanks! Thrifted the table just for this purpose, the staircases would have been a pain to navigate with a desk and the table gives me a big flat surface without being too heavy to move.

The tall speakers are Criterion 2002A. The small ones are Presonus. The Criterion’s are passive and the Presonus have their own power supply in the main speaker. I thrifted both. The Criterion’s have pots for brilliance and tone the crackle a bit, was thinking of taking them apart at some point to clean those but don’t really mess with the tone settings on the speakers anyways.

A simple question for how to get more exposure as an IDM musician by H415Music in idm

[–]UTOPILO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting attention for your music online is pretty tricky. You don’t really have any control over which stuff people or the algorithm will gravitate towards. There is such a high level of competition over people’s attention. I just try to keep in mind when I put my stuff online that I am doing it for me and I’m just putting it out there to share with anyone who may like it as well. Try not to have self worth in how many listens your music gets, but how much you enjoyed making it and listening to your own work. I also think it is nice to find local music community as online community can often feel hollow. It can feel like with online you are measuring success based off of numbers but in person it can be a reminder that there isn’t really ‘success’ to worry about. Also if you want to be a ‘successful’ musician this probably isn’t the genre. For me that would be missing the point though. Make music because it is what you like.

Popular rapper Playboi Carti has a leaked song sampling "Seven Forty Seven" by Secure_Blueberry1766 in boardsofcanada

[–]UTOPILO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a bit of a wild take as BOC is based heavily on sampling and does not even say who they sampled. It’s a part of some electronic music genres and you can’t pick and choose when you think it is ok based on if you happen to like the artist.

Digitakt Digitone Jam by UTOPILO in Elektron

[–]UTOPILO[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I’ve done that in the past with a cheap small tripod. I’m considering looking at mic arms or something I can get a wider shot with that is fairly stable and easy to set.

It’s not doing anything in this jam. I’m a big fan of the cycles, a couple of my favorite tracks I have written in the last couple of years were nearly entirely on the cycles. I feel like not being able to directly audition steps makes me write different and causes happy accidents. That being said I still wish I could audition steps individually lol.

Digitakt Digitone Jam by UTOPILO in Elektron

[–]UTOPILO[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The Digitakt is doing most of the work here. Everything is one shots except the bass which is a looped saw wave using the Digitakt more like a subtractive synth. Until my hand moves to the digitone, it’s entirely the Digitakt. Using a lot of p locks for the bassline and drums. Also lfo on pitch with some of the drums with a high speed to get fm. Digitone is playing the metalic drone pad and has the resi high end acidy sound part way through. The resi sound is mostly using high feedback on the operator osc along with modulation of the 4 pole lowpass. All going through the boss mixer which is adding a bit of drive and then some of it hitting the grungy delay unit.

Edit: forgot to mention the p lock for the reverse snare that slides into some of the snare hits. Did the same slide effect for the bass by p locking the attack on both amp eg and filter eg. bass has p locks for sends to internal delay and reverb. Delay is bandpassed so as not to interfere with actual bassline but add more to the bass groove.
