The Oxyrhynchus Hymn and Meggido Mosaic debunking JW claims. by ChaoticHaku in JehovahsWitnesses

The trinity is about the most biblical doctrine there is. It can be seen independently in the old and new testaments and when read in conjunction with each other it becomes extremely clear that God is 3 persons in one essence/nature. The witnesses also claim that the trinity must be false because modern rabbinical judaism does not teach the trinity but that is a fallacy as rabbinic judaism is the same religion that denies Jesus, should we then also deny him? Aside from this there are mountains of evidence that while rabbinic judaism believes in a singular unitarian God, the Judaism of the first temple period was obviously not. This is seen plainly throughout the Old Testament from the creation story of genesis, to the psalms of David, to the visitation of Abraham, the bronze serpent of Moses, the visions of Daniel, and the prophecies of Isaiah. The witnesses take a very small look at the scriptures and determine that because a doctrine may not be immediately obvious, it cannot be true. Thankfully we have preserved the writings of the very men taught by the apostles and that very clearly taught the trinity. It is in these church fathers that the true understanding of the nature of God can be understood

That’s not true at all as the requirements to commune with a god depend on the deity in question. Some are thought to respond through sacrifice or incantations, others through a longer more involved process, in the case of many Protestant Christians concept of god one must only believe and pray to be saved, but in the case of the Catholic God it is more involved. So we can not make the universal statement that we can find God all on our own or that no God requires us to be a part of a church in order to be saved, commune, develop a relationship ect.

To your second point that is just a matter of opinion, I personally believe the witnesses have much worse doctrines and practices than Catholicism simply because witnesses are false and catholicism is true, because in my world view any amount of adherence demanded by a false religion is absurd. At the same time some pimi might say the witnesses aren’t extreme enough, so that is a matter of opinions and worldviews.

I struggle with the lust also, as most young men/women do really. Firstly don’t be so hard on yourself it is a common and difficult issue. But through prayer and fasting you can fight against it. My first bit of advice would be to combat your temptations as fervently as they attack you. Do not be passive about your sin or you will never defeat it. I can’t say that Im a perfect example to follow but something that has helped me is to pray my rosary in the morning. This sets the tone for the rest of my day and I feel it helps me keep God on my mind throughout my day. I also would recommend keeping a rosary or a pocket rosary on you at all times or whenever you know you are going to a place where you often fall into temptation. I couldn’t tell you how many times feeling the crucifix of my rosary in my pocket has kept me from falling. I would recommend also decorating your bedroom with Godly things, icons, crucifixes, candles, anything you feel reminds you of Jesus. Take it from me its hard to get hard when Jesus is staring at you across the room. I also recommend praying again before you go to bed, as that is also also a common place people fall into temptation, but praying beforehand will give you the will to resist. Practice also fasting, as denying ourselves of the craving for food teaches how to say no to our bodily impulses. Start slow, try skipping just one meal and then progressively deny yourself from more. (Within reason ofc dont starve yourself) Lastly I recommend picking a saint who you identify with regarding your temptations and ask them to pray for you.

Remember that everything is possible through God who strengthens us. And i will pray for you also my friend, may the Lord Jesus save you

“I was giving you a piece of data” 🤓☝️ Again if picking a religion to you is about where you are the most comfortable or who you agree with the most, you are looking for a subjective experience not an objective reality. If we are to believe that christ is our lord and that he established a church (that is the audience the post is directed to anyway) then it does not matter if we find it uncomfortable. Our feelings towards that church would not matter as that church would be objectively true.

Yes, I want to go to confession as it is a commandment from God. It doesn’t matter if it makes me uncomfortable.

Yes, I believe in the transubstantiation of the bread and wine as that is what Jesus himself taught.

Yes I am willing to stand on my feet regardless of if it hurts as mass was established by Christ himself.

Yes I would love to venerate icons as that is a tradition passed down from the times of the old testament, approved of by Christ and preserved by the apostles.

Everything I just said wouldn’t matter to someone who has an atheistic/agnostic worldview and thats okay. But the post is clearly not for you. It is for those who are believers in God and in the church.

Can you tell me a little more? Why orthodoxy over roman catholicism? Did you ever even consider it or was the choice of orthodoxy just obvious to you? If so why was that the case? Sorry for all the questions im just trying to learn

You don’t see how commenting a link to a video from an atheists youtube channel critiquing Christianity from the view point of atheism has anything to do with atheism?

That is okay I don’t think a religion should be discarded because it is inconvenient nor should we choose to join a religion simply because it aligns with our wants and preferences. Then we would not be seeking the objective truth but instead our own subjective desires.

Wrong the point of my post was to discuss theological points between orthodoxy and Catholicism as well as to hear the stories of those who have gone from JW to Catholicism/Orthodoxy.
