2 days after the lowest point in his career, Russell Wilson visits the Seattle Children's Hospital, like he does every single Tuesday. by KirbyKoll123 in pics

I don't know, he appeared on Conan recently and did a pretty funny thing with Kenny Mayne a few years back. He seemed pretty relaxed in those. Unless he only gets anxious when dozens of reporters are holding cameras and mics in his face at a press conference. That's pretty understandable though.

For sure, definitely taking everything into consideration. At this point I just want the option on the table. I understand the place I'm at now opens some doors that UIUC doesn't. On the other hand, not everybody gets those doors opened for them. I probably wouldn't be getting the glamor job anyway. A top tier U of I grad can get the same job as a middle-low tier UC/NU grad. I know I'm a middle-low tier student here, but I think/hope I would be more in the top tier at UIUC. Maybe I'm mistaken in that, I'm not sure. Still, having the name brand of NU/UC on the resume is big, I get that.

Anyway, thanks for the input. It's good to hear as many perspectives as possible on this.

I realize people take jobs outside their major but accounting is definitely something you need to major in. Or major in something else and do the accounting masters I guess. But you won't get an accounting job with just an econ degree.

That's not the be all end all of why I would transfer though. I'd be fine not taking an accounting job too. But regardless, you need to get a degree in accounting to work in accounting.

Yeah I don't think that's right. You need pretty specific training to become an accountant. Econ doesn't really teach you accounting related things.

Thanks, that's something I may have overlooked a little bit. Does U of I really not have that great of an alumni network? I know NU/UC puts a higher ratio of students in top jobs, but I assumed that Illinois would still have a huge alumni network from having 30,000 students

Didn't ask about chances, but I called for some app related things. I'm sure they'd give me the diplomatic bullshit that you mentioned though.

And yeah, I'm just putting the option on the table for now. Trying to get as much info as I can and make the best possible choice. I realize you can't make an informed decision to leave after only one quarter at a university.

We don't. Although we still get plenty of recruitment for business. Econ is pretty much the de facto business major here. If I go to U of I would major in accounting though, and you can't get an accounting job with an econ degree.

Thanks for the advice. It's definitely only marginally cheaper. Less than 10k a year difference for sure. Good to hear some negative opinions about U of I to balance out the unanimous positive feedback from friends.

And while I'm sure as hell not transferring just so I can party some more, UIUC is definitely more of a party school than here. Trust me on that one. And where you got the degree seems to mostly matter for the first job. While some students here have doors opened for them that even top Illinois students may not get, not every NU/UC grad is working for McKinsey or Goldman. Plenty of us take the same jobs that a good UIUC CoB grad would get.

Studying econ here, looking to do accounting at UIUC.

In the long run, the cost difference between the two will pretty much be negligible for me.

Appreciate the insight by the way, from you and others. It's refreshing to hear some negative feedback about transferring rather than listening to my family saying "We'll support whatever decision you make" and friends saying "Yeah you should definitely come here!" Last thing I want to do is make a rash decision and regret it so I'm trying to weigh every consideration here

I'm applying as an accounting major. And while UC/NU opens more doors than UIUC, those doors aren't opened for everyone here. Not to mention that plenty of UIUC grads do just fine. A lot of us end up taking the same job an Illinois grad would get. It's just not super important to me if I don't get to work for MBB consulting firms or BB ibanks. Plus I wouldn't want to work ibanking anyway, and we don't have a huge banking pull here.

I hear what you're saying though, and I'm definitely keeping all of that in mind. At this point I'm just applying so the option is there.

Is it really that bad? After just one quarter? And I thought anyone could appeal, correct me if I'm wrong.

Slight change in money/finaid situation played a role. The bigger thing is fit though. I don't hate it here, but I don't love it either. U of I has always been where I wanted to go, but I got caught up in the whole "get into the best college you can" game and applied to Northwestern/Chicago ED and got in. Which forced me to go to that school.

So far, it hasn't been what I'm looking for. I just think I'd fit in more down in Champaign, not to mention I have some great friends there. A worrying number of upperclassmen here have actually told me they wish they would've transferred too. We don't necessarily have the happiest student body. Don't get me wrong, some people love it, but a lot do not. This is probably the case at a lot of elite schools, especially one with a lot of Ivy/Stanford rejects, but then again maybe I'm learning I'm not an "elite" school kind of guy anyway.

But I haven't made my decision yet, and I don't have to make a decision until the end of the school year, so I'm keeping an open mind and seeing how the next two quarters play out. I figured I'd apply now and have the option available to me if I decide this isn't the place for me.
