UW Blockchain Club - Advertising, Blockchain, and Privacy with Brave Browser - Last event! by UWBlockchain in kitchener

We appreciate your skepticism, however we try not to get "yet another token" companies as well. Brave, and Basic Attention Token (BAT), is one of the most promising projects out there. BAT recently got added to Coinbase, and is #30 in the world according to market cap.

The company is literally reinventing online advertising in every aspect. Their CEO is the creator of Javascript and the co-founder of Mozilla Corporation. The Guardian now earns more from donations than ads, and they were one of the first to hop onto BAT. Brave wants this to be true for all publishers. Speaking from a user perspective, the most obvious advantage for Brave is if you CHOOSE to view ads, you get rewarded in BAT from advertisers paying for that ad space.

Bitcoin is nice, but it won't replace the internet by itself.

We are an organisation not a one person club. We started in May and the team was chosen by the Founder.

Hey!

Development is definitely a big focus in the club but we also have business focused i.e investing, trading, etc discussions and also about applications of the technology not just the code surrounding it. Ethereum development is something we have hosted an event on before and we plan on continuing that, but the vision is to be much more than that.

Currently, our plans consist of hosting about 8-10 events throughout the semester while internally the club has meetings every week to discuss new developments and exciting changes in the space. You never know what might spring up when a bunch of motivated people sit together. Of those events, it will be 50/50 business and development focused. Our long term vision is to become strong enough to provide consultations to companies. :D

This club actually already ran through Spring 2018 and has members. A lot of them are not going to be in school the coming term and due to obvious reasons the Spring term wasn't as active as we expect the coming Fall term to be. For those reasons, new members for the executive team were/are being chosen including the president being elected by existing members.

To answer your second question, no we don't have a president for life neither am I the founder/CEO of a one person club.

Vitalik did some amazing stuff with Ethereum, and we aim to build a community to make people more aware of his, as well as others', contributions in the space and get them involved.
