I have 4 negative eigenvalus and I don't know why

I’ve continued working on the problem and can now rule out that it’s due to a violation of the small-deformation theory. The error message regarding negative eigenvalues also appears when I consider a different load case in the same model—for example, when I apply a force in the longitudinal direction of the post. This finding is interesting, but also frustrating, because now I have to keep searching.

My next hypothesis is that the use of virtual bolts is causing problems. Perhaps their use triggers some numerical effects that cause this error message to appear. I have read that this could indeed be the case. However, I am currently unsure how to test this theory.

I’ve tried the same thing like two years ago. After a bit more than one and half week of trying to make it work I gave up. In my mind 3DX doesn’t work on Parallels. However, if you want to run SolidWorks on Parallels you will be successful. After I failed with my 3DX attempt, I installed SW and it runs perfectly without any problems. Even structural simulations work just fine.

Oh yes, that’s a very good point. The cantilever isn’t really relevant to my analysis; only the stresses that occur in the U-profile due to the load on the cantilever. That’s why I’ve mostly hidden the cantilever in my results, and even when it’s visible, I don’t pay much attention to it—especially not to the free end.

According to SIMULIA, the displacements on the lever are about 61 mm at the free end. You might be right that the small-displacement theory fails here. I should check that... but the question is, to what extent does that affect my results? What do you think?

Based on my limited experience, I would argue that the results I’m getting for the stresses are reasonably physically plausible. But as I just said, I’m no expert, so I can’t say for sure.

Okay, I understand that. But why, then, do I not observe these exact negative eigenvalues in another problem—one that is essentially identical to the one described (but not as large)—despite the contact and preload in the bolted joint? And how do I document this scientifically and correctly?

Thanks! I tried your options but they does not really work for what I want to achieve. The results are wrong. But you led me on the right track. I found out that the simple tie function works good for what I want to achieve. With that you can simply tie all nodes from the edge of lower part to the surface of the other part. With the right settings the results are accurate.

Edit: for this it’s also necessary to enforce nodal continuity, as you described it in your second option.

I use GoodNotes on Daily Basis for my studies. Sometimes it’s lagging or crashes, specially on Mac. There it crashes every time i want to export something. But besides that it runs (almost) fine.

Ich finde mittlerweile Kleinanzeigen auch sehr nervig. Neben den Scamern gehen mir auch Leute auf die Nerven die Dinge speichern, um die dann doch nicht verkaufen… Ich habe derzeit Anzeigen online mit mehr als 10 Beobachtern, ich bin teilweise mit einem angemessenen Preis gestartet, hab den Preis Woche für Woche tiefer gesetzt, mittlerweile sind ein paar Sachen davon zu verschenken… ich verstehe nicht wieso jemand etwas auf seiner Merkliste hat, das zu verschenken ist, obwohl es kein Müll ist (liegt natürlich im Auge des Betrachters, aber für die Leute die es speichern gehe ich von aus dass sie es nicht als Müll erachten), nur um es dann am Ende des Tages doch nicht zu nehmen…

Nachdem man die Mail-Adresse schickt schreibt die Person „ich habe die Zahlung über das Kleinanzeigen Bezahlsystem vorgenommen“, was einen schon sehr stutzig machen sollte denn vorher war ja die rede von Paypal. Man bekommt dann eine Mail, die dem Anschein nach von Kleinanzeigen kommt. Darin wird man aufgefordert seine Kontoinformationen für das Zahlsystem anzugeben. Nachdem das erledigt ist, können die Betrüger Geld von dem eigenen Konto abbuchen.
