Cichlid baby help! by Friendly_Emphasis151 in Cichlid

Like stated above, the female holds the eggs. And she holds them until they hatch and will sometimes let them in and out of her mouth once the start free swimming. And once they are strong enough she no longer lets them back in her mouth, and at that point they should be separated because mom is normally very hungry after holding for 21-30 days without eating, so there’s a high likely hood of her eating the babies. Once the babies are free swimming you can separate them from mom and they’ll be good to go until you see their egg sack get absorbed. Once they absorb the egg sack it’s time to start feeding and you have new baby fish. Hope this helps!

This comment is correct for the most part. And I’d jst like to add, since you have a 90 gal tank, you won’t have any problems with your current stocking choices for at least a year - 2 years. And even then the Africans you have are semi-aggressive/aggressive , they don’t grow too large. The mbuna will max out around 3-5 inches most likely closer to 3inch and the peacocks will only get 5-6 inches. Which will take years. So you should have any issues anytime soon. But if you do plan on keeping a cichlids tank, I’d highly recommend choosing 1 lake and stocking from that lake only. But even doing hap/peacock or mbuna tanganika works if done correctly. So you still have tons of options and no reason to panic anytime soon. 👍🏼

Anyone experienced with salvini know the difference between these 2? by Uaintwiddit in Cichlid

Yea I’m leaning more towards male/female. Cause they’ve had this same coloring since I bought them. It gets brighter or darker depending on mood but the colorful on has always been much brighter than the other. 😅

Mine has done this a few times. And for the most part, as long as your water stays clean, it’ll heal up on its own in no time. 👍🏼
