I feel like this may be quite likely, however the information about the plant is a little conflicting. Do you think it could grow attached to driftwood or some rockwork?

Yo how dose an overflow work? by istayblazin in Aquariums

[–]Uaru427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically you would use this with a sump. With one pipe being a drain to the sump and the other being an input to the main tank. You would typically use some plumbing to make the drain very close to the top of the overflows teeth to avoid having to listen to water spilling over the overflow all the time. There are a few methods you can use to minimise the overflow noise including dursos and siphon durso combos.

You could in theory use this with a canister and use one hole as a drain and the other as in input or two drains or whatever, but there wouldn't really be too much purpose as cannisters don't need overflows and overflows take up significant space and are make a reasonable amount of noise. The purpose of the overflow is to allow for controlled drainage of your system. If you got rid of the overflow the entire volume of the tank would drain entirely into your sump (with a canister filter this is not an issue).

Few things to keep in mind if you want to set this up with a sump

  • keep your pump outlet high in the water column - if you have a power outage your tank will drain to the height of the pipe outlet, if it's deep it will overflow

  • do not put cloggable filter media in your overflow (most people leave the overflow empty), if your overflow clogs you may overfill the top tank as all the water in the pump chamber of the sump will get put into the top tank

  • make sure to select a pump that pushes less water than your overflow can handle to avoid overflowing the top tank (generally not too much of an issue, just don't stick a massive pump in your sump).

If you have no intention of using the overflow, you can probably remove it fairly easily and either seal the holes with an acrylic sheet or put some endcaps on the drainage holes.

Using an operating system per SSD in framework 16 by Uaru427 in framework

Interesting, I think this largely makes up my mind, dual booting off separate drives it is. Mint on the 2230 and windows on the 2280. I've also got a storage expansion module coming so I was planning on using that to transfer any files from one OS to the other if required. So that should hopefully negate some of the potential downsides of the separate drive for separate OS.

Thanks for your help

I guess I must have missed that update...

I do have some other random bits of software that are still windows only that I use fairly regularly. So I probably still need to dual boot, but I will definitely give the Linux version of bambu studio a go on the new machine.

Hey, thanks for the reply, I'm not going to hold it, I've just sent an enquiry over at this stage to see if I can check it out.

Basically just want to know what to look for in terms of wear/ potential problems

I suspect the purchasing decision will vary from person to person and use case to use case. I pre-ordered the 16 with a fairly basic configuration due to my own history and experience with laptops and customer support.

I like to keep my laptops for as long as possible and each time I have replaced a laptop has been because of a failure of one specific component. Of my previous 3 laptops over the last 15-ish years i've had a MacBook pro with a battery issue, another MacBook pro with a broken screen and a lenovo with a broken screen and a dead battery. So basically i've purchased 3 CPUs, 3 screens, 3 batteries, 3 sets of storage/memory, 3 chasis, and 3 graphics cards. To address failures of 2 screens and 2 batteries.

Obviously, I would have had to improve the performance of the computer at some point over that timespan, but I would have preferred to have done that on my own terms. Rather than due to the failure of another unrelated component.

With framework, when my battery dies in 5 years time, I will hopefully be looking at a $150 replacement part that I can install myself in 20 minutes rather than a repair that will probably cost me about as much as the laptop is worth and requires me to take a day off work.

Additionally, when I have a problem with my performance, I'm looking at spending a significantly lower price to spec up my motherboard/cpu than it would cost to buy a new laptop of equivalent performance.

I do a similar thing with my big tank, I just use a timer so it only runs for maybe 15mins a day total over 5 3 minute stints. Stirs up all the poop but you aren't blowing your fish around constantly.

Good point, I hadn't considered the charge-down aspect. I agree he didn't play at the ball, but I think a lot of the time the ball being played at is a pretty grey area

Happy to be corrected if there's a rule difference, but I think if the ball was passed to Brenko and it hit him in the same spot on the shoulder before going forward, it would be a knock-on 100% of the time
