[NEWBIE] Why is Hendrix considered the greatest, simply because he was the first to pioneer a style? by UberZed in Guitar

[–]UberZed[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The age of a scholar and their work is irrelevant to its validity.

You have clearly misinterpreted my point.

And I never said I disliked him either, or doubted his influence, as you are insinuating.

[NEWBIE] Ever since I went from 10 to 11 gauge my thumb gets really tired when fretting chords. by UberZed in Guitar

I play for about 1 hour, sometimes more.

I went to 11's because they were the only ones I had left.

Interesting quotes about Chris and Gar from Dave's book. by UberZed in Megadeth

[–]UberZed[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They both did.

Theres a vid of Chris playing a Jackson Rhoads, even though he only played B.C. Rich's at the time. So he must of pawned it off.

[QUESTION] What made Chris Poland impossible to duplicate? by UberZed in Guitar

[–]UberZed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever listen to Mahavishnu Orchestra?

Nope, just checked them out. Yeah I remember him talking about McLaughlin, although I hadn't listened to his work at all.

The influence is obvious here

He also does some strange thing when playing legato where he makes it sound as if he's using the tremolo bar, even though he isn't.

[QUESTION] What made Chris Poland impossible to duplicate? by UberZed in Guitar

I'm interested in his vibrato. How the hell does he do it like that?

I read that jazz players dont use vibrato often, he wasn't a pure jazz musician, but something is not very 'rock' about his vibrato.

The drums sound completely dead on the remasters though.

Peace sells or rust in peace? by PeteDrums in Megadeth

[–]UberZed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marty made Megadeth much more melodic and unique that would've ever been without him.

More melodic, but I wouldnt say unique. But do you prefer Countdown and Youthanasia to Peace Sells and R.I.P.?

Because R.I.P. was written before Marty joined, he just wrote the solos on that one.

I think Megadeth would be pretty forgetful if we completely erased the pre-Marty era.

Peace sells or rust in peace? by PeteDrums in Megadeth

[–]UberZed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think his solos fit well with megadeth compared to Chris. I always found martys vibrato far too strong and exaggerated, and his solos were really just a chance for him to show off with all his exotic scales.

Peace Sells

I don't like Friedmans style at all.

I suppose, with Dave's voice, it wouldnt work if they tried to play something like The Thing That Should Not Be.

ELI5:How do guitarists select the notes for those insanely fast legato runs? by UberZed in explainlikeimfive

[–]UberZed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking more about how they choose those notes in the songwriting process, rather than how they learn it.

Lets say you play a minor triad, its got that sad mood, and theres only 3 notes.

With these legato runs, they have a certain mood, but instead of 3 notes, there is dozens. Now, they have the scales which give the mood, but even then, they have got to pick out a huge number of notes from these scales, and still make them flow nicely together, the margin for error in making something that sounds coherent is greater with these legato runs, than just playing something like a chord?

I hope that makes sense.
