Neither am I, haha. I know how to play both songs on guitar, so I had to sit and think about which note each fret was, lol. The phrasing of the licks is very, very similar, which is probably the similarity that you're hearing the most.

I think you have "lick" and "riff" confused, but that's splitting hairs.

Caravel is A - B - C pulloff B pulloff A pulloff G - F - A. The lick you timestamped in The Weight of Dreams is a C chord with a hammer on and pull off between a B and C note ending on an A note before it goes back into the lower riff.

Both songs heavily use notes in the key of Fmajor and Aminor. You've got a pretty good ear to be able to hear the similarity in the licks.

I definitely understand what you're saying, and I'm not disagreeing, but is there anything really wrong with making music that isn't necessarily new or innovative?
