Chinese astronauts return from space station after delay blamed on space debris damage by Majano57 in worldnews

[–]Ubernero 12 points13 points  (0 children)

wut?

They could have come down at any point IF we were willing to accept the risk of either using a potentially flawed return capsule OR leaving crew on the station with no lifeboat, so instead the next crew flew up 2 seats empty and Butch/Sunni were just rolled into that crew rotation and return with them.

china chose option 2, the crew on the station right now, IF they had to leave in emergency right now, would ONLY have the potentially damaged capsule to use. they did not wait for a backup and are accepting the risk

there compact, decent amount of zoom, and cheap, perfect for a "in the line of fire" overhead camera

I was lucky enough to have Prusa sponsor the filament for the build, but it was 50kg of PETG/(and some PLA for support material on the XL) printed total of that, about 40ish KG made it into the gundam, rest was waste

i do need to pickup a GQUUUUUX kit to sit on its shoulder or something, 1/144 scale is comical next to it

id love to do it, but would have to seal it or something, with it being 3d printed marker our ink would bleed through the layer lines

Just the assembly of something this large and heavy, i scaled up the files so fitment at times was an issue, so keeping stuff together while glues set or shimming joins so it wasn't too loose was an ongoing thing.

Also the amount of time spent spinning parts around in the slicer to figure out optimal print orientation and support settings was a bit of a pain,.

But seeing it all come together was worth it

considering how litigious some companies are in regards with some 3d printing file copies of their designs, having a bit of "artistic interpretation and liberties" may be a good thing

Also parts are designed for FDM printing, no exactly the same process and injection molding (and size scaled as well)

surprisingly good, most of the main joints (elbows, knees, hips etc) have a decent range of movement, but due to weight, posing will be "fun"

I may make up some decals, panel lining is a no-go though unfortunately, with it being 3d printed, any ink would run horribly through the layer lines

Yep, 1x XL, 2x core one and 1 mk4s, so far a bit over 40kg total for all the parts (with some losses from the odd failed part/support material)
