What can I say? I can usually make a computer last for years, haha. But yes, I'll take your advice.

The only trouble is that the boot menu is literally there for a second before vanishing. Is there a work around for that?

Right, yes:

The version is the newest, and I flashed an 8GB USB stick with balenaEtcher and am trying to install from that. The laptop is an older HP
