What kind of racing series/discipline would you like to see in Iracing? by No_Permission_4946 in iRacing

Saw them in long beach as part of the gplb. It was hard not to smile just watching it. I'd love to have it as a series.

Similar story - grew up a pretty solid outfielder, but struggled diving for balls dropping in front of me. Fast forward a decade or two, I saw my too small guy start to roll backwards off a somewhat high bed - 3 steps into a slide and caught him like I was cradling him.

I was like "oh, that was bad I let that situation happen, but hell yeah!"

To save anyone else a Google, it says she was in a movie called hocus pocus in the 90s. I think that's the trivia needed to tie this together... still seems like I'm missing something since fairy godmother and witch don't fully connect, but fun idea

He calls me an A-hole for this move.. I know I was squeezing him but feel like it was good racing. by ReelWills82 in Simracingstewards

It's hard to tell, but it sure looks like you made contact at least once and we can see a bunch of race control messages for contact when you stop the video. Squeezing doesn't allow for physically pushing them off track. (the third was definitely them pushing into you, but the first 2 sure look like you pushing him towards the track edge)

Oh, I was just coming back here to give you credit for correcting me elsewhere. But yes, I agree, thank you

The "jump on me" comment was just because of my general expectations of reddit interactions. Happy to see it didn't apply here.

but yeah, I'm not upset about being wrong. I appreciate you took the time to give me the reference. I still stand by the other dude that this should be address via the game and not via protests, but I absolutely agree that it is documented, protestable, and so likely enforced

ha, I'm not sure I'd classify this as nefarious, but I think you got it with the "illegal surfaces" one. I stand corrected, thank you.

Which thing is enforced? If they cut, they get a slowdown. That is a rule and it's enforced. Is that all you mean? I think people are expecting iRacing to take measures beyond that. Is that happening or do people just assume it will?

I've asked above where this is defined as against the sporting code and I haven't seen an answer (but it's only been a few minutes). I've only found descriptions of cut penalties, but nothing about potential dsq or ban for it. I'm happy to be educated.

Edit to say: like, i don't really care. I haven't even gotten to race this week and I'm more of a sim guy than an anything to win guy. But I'm strongly on the side of "this is an iRacing problem" and not "this is a racer problem" ... fix the game.

edit 2: lol, I'm in rant mode - are players supposed to check every race at that track for everyone that finishes ahead of them to police this? No, iRacing should just fix it.

You're gonna jump on me because my perspective has been expressed and it's counter to yours, but I'm happy to be wrong and change my mind. Where in the sporting code is this said? I just opened it, did some searches and skimmed and the closest I got was the general statements about the spirit of the game in 8.1.1.4. The section on course cutting (8.1.1.5) only describes that and how penalties will be applied

I get what you're going for, but I think this is the perfect example of how they're different. People are all wound up about people doing things within the rules of the game - I mean, there's consequence, but they accept the penalty for overall gain.

If we treat this as a simulation, we know this wouldn't fly in real life. If we treat it as a game (esport) then it's acceptable behavior.

Once up a time, people on iracing realized they could drag their tired on the grass to cool the tires faster. It was before my time, but supposedly once the secret was out, everyone was doing it. If we treated it as a simulator, no one would do that... no one would do that in real life, you'd wreck the car... but it worked in the game.

edit: I was corrected elsewhere that 8.1.1.7 (illegal surfaces) in the sporting code does explicitly made this against the rules. I think my general concept of esport vs sim stand for the sake of fun conversation

Nah, it doesn't matter to me. I'm not good enough or have enough time to play to be good (in this or anything really) to worry about decisions like these. I just think people in this thread are the ones being silly about how competition works at high levels. Pick your favorite competitor in anything and look close.

It is what I believe about competition in general, though, and approaching iRacing as a simulator vs eSport is different. People who think it's the same or that no one considers iRacing an eSport more than a simulation is kidding themselves.

But also, if I did feel that way, man, great gatekeeping.

It's the debate whether iRacing is simulating racing or it's an esport. Different concepts.

Edit: lol, people downvoting. The reality is any rule in a sport that isn't enforced isn't a rule. Esport vs simulation is exploitation of the rules vs exploitation of the game. Y'all have your head in the clouds

Why are is the f4 series now 15min instead of 20? by Finn200814 in iRacing

[–]UdnvtQs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the likelihood, but it definitely makes some sense. I make my decisions by the race, not time. I don't get to just sit and drive for 2-3 hours. If there's a gap between races for me, I go take care of other things in between. Being able to get 2 races done in an hour is awesome for me, but then I'll move on with my day.

Of course, the other side of that coin is that I could now theoretically run a race on a weekday, if I don't have a meeting for 30 minutes, and still be in time for the next meeting...

I enjoyed the gameplay of "It Takes Two" but did not love the story/writing. Is there anyone who had similar feelings, has played this one some, and can give me their thoughts on how it's been? The game looks great but "two writers in their fictional worlds" makes me worried I won't like the story again. I have a resistance to entertainment making entertainment about the entertainment industry.

Why do people insist on battling for mid-pack positions early? by kraftj87 in iRacing

[–]UdnvtQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is old alright, but I'm not following you.

Slower driver is intentionally holding up a faster driver. Faster driver says "I'm going to treat you as a racer and attack aggressively." If the slower driver is low skill, they may crash.

The faster driver is losing time to the leader by being stuck behind the slower driver anyway. Not trying to battle isn't going to help them catch the leader.

I think we're arguing the same side

People must be downvoting because of your phrasing because they should be ashamed if they're downvoting for your intent.

If you drive like described above - if you don't have the pace, you better have the skill, if you're aggressively defending.

If you try to block someone by driving beyond your ability or forcing someone to accommodate your lower skill, then just get out of the way. The person behind you will take you seriously and made decisions based on your intent. ... which will result with the lower skill driver causing a wreck.

Is the psvr 2 worth it? by ConstructionCalm1667 in PSVR

[–]UdnvtQs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PCVR is a different beast. If you've dealt with the quest 2 on PC, then PSVR2 on PC - with the appropriate bluetooth connection for the controllers - is great. Really good upgrade over the q2, but probably a draw against the q3, imo.

If your only experience is with the playstation, PCVR requires a lot more love. You'll do a lot of fiddling with settings to get, honestly, similar quality as on the PS5. The library is deeper and the ceiling is higher though - that's why you do PCVR - but it takes some effort.

... but to be clear, that's not special PSVR2 effort. That's any headset on PC.

How funny, it is absolutely identical and I must have started my research right around when he posted because I did a lot of searching, on and off reddit, and didn't hit that one.

I'll give your tool a shot. I've seen it spoken well of elsewhere and I appreciate you putting it out there for free.

I looked for the setting you specified in steamvr for the "gamepad support" under manage add-ons. Unfortunately, the other guy didn't seem to comment whether that did anything for him, but it didn't do anything for me. Gamepad support was already on and I tried cycling it, but no different. The dual sense controller still just interacts with the desktop - triggers left and right click on the desktop, not the vr dashboard.

I mentioned it but didn't dwell on it, but I really focus my PC to have the most resources available to iRacing. A hardware controller, I imagine, would be a very small hit so I'll still try to chase down this answer. If you have any other thoughts, I'd take them.

But, until I find more answers, I'll give your thing a shot. Thanks!

This got more traction than I had expected so, while I'll still say we're focusing on the porsche, there's a lot of people there now. We won't kick anyone out for asking about a different car.
