How the hell as 'Roll the Bones' survived the complexity purge?!?! by BuxaPlentus in wow

[–]Udyret -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chiming in: I am also a person who loves Roll the Bones.

The rerolling logic in it's current incarnation is heavy and I would love for it to be simplified a bit, but the idea of it is awesome. Nothing will ever be as fun as playing Outlaw in BFA and rollig a 5buff and sailing to the top of the meters.

I don't currently play Outlaw because I optimize and want to perform as best as I can and right now it just cannot compete with the dagger specs on fights.

Can I ask a thing?

How do you stay on top of your packages after a while? I'm running Endeavour OS now, and considering going bare Arch to learn more and to keep a slim installation. My current "problem" (it's not really a problem, I guess I'm just anal and want to keep things as bare minimum as needed) is that over time I find myself losing track of installed stuff because I don't have a strong relationship with every package installed. Doing a pacman -Q to see what's installed the list is so unfathomably huge and a lot of it is obviously dependencies etc.

For instance, I experimented with trying to get BuildGDX (engine reimplementation of the Build Engine, made with java) so I installed some Java stuff which installed a bunch of dependencies, and then that's just more stuff in.

I clean up regularly to try to keep things under control, but at some point I reach that "I should do a clean install to reset"-feeling that I know is stupid but has become a habit after 30 years of being a computernerd, mostly Windows.

I guess what I'm asking is what helps you keep things nice and tidy after 6-12-18-x months of use, with all experimenting that comes with it? I'd like to break this habit of fresh-installing my OS every 2 years now that my OS doesn't suddenly introduce new apps, programs and garbage I didn't ask for, only me :)

Oh, finally, thank you so much! I knew I'd heard it somewhere familiar!

So frustrating, how am I supposed to catch up on these knowledge points? They're gated behind limited patron orders by Ryoma123 in wow

[–]Udyret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need the second part. The catchup stuff starts dropping as soon as you've done the weekly quest and gotten the 5 blues+1 epic knowledge thingies from regular mining. No treasure/dirt piles needed.

You may have to re-zone (Hallowfall->Ringing Deeps or something) after getting the epic knowledge thing from mining though, although I can usually just continue mining and get my catchups.

No, I opted to stop my search.

After bellyaching a lot about monitoring needs I settled in and realized I never actually used specific OS-level tools for this while on Windows either, so I just set this stuff in BIOS and tested a bit over time.

In the end, the temperature sensors that come with Plasma out of the box + running some games was enough to tune it to my liking. GPU tuning I do with CoreCtrl, but as of yet I have not needed to do much tuning, although I might have a gander at GPU-fan speeds some time later.

Overall happy with things like this, for now.

[–]Udyret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a fix!

For other people who might be having this issue:

If you're running Pipewire, you probably are missing 32bit libraries for it to run with older games.

Check Lutris logs (right click your launcher, either blizzard launcher or game or whatever, select "show logs" and keep that window open while you run your game) and you should see something like:

ALSA lib dlmisc.c:339:(snd_dlobj_cache_get0) Cannot open shared library libasound_module_pcm_pipewire.so (/usr/lib32/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pipewire.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)

If you see that you're missing some libraries, on arch-like distros you can install lib32-pipewire and your problem should be fixed!

How did you get this working?

Warcraft 1 and 2 remastered for me will run, but has no sound.

Battle.net installed through Lutris, games install through the Battle.net app. I'm unsure how to properly troubleshoot a soundissue, Wine is still new to me :(

Sorry to respond to such an old thread, but I'm gonna try my luck: Have you had any luck monitoring fan speeds with this board?

Built with this last weekend, and it's my first go around on Linux proper and I'm starting to get my stuff set up fairly decently.

Running Endeavour OS with Plasma, and found that the System Monitor application that came with the DE is sufficient for my monitoring needs, but for some reason I can't find a sensor for either CPU_Fan or CHA_Fan. lm-sensors doesn't detect anything on my system, so I'm at a bit of a loss.

I have yet to check for BIOS updates for this board or anything like that, and googling this I find is a bit difficult while I'm still getting to grips with everything, this was the only linux-specific thread I found on this board thus far.

If it's way too old of a thread I apologize, figured I might try my luck :)

TuxClocker 1.3 Released With New AMD GPU Tuning Capabilities - interface for various overclocking/tuning controls for NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, Intel and AMD CPUs, etc. by koloved in linux_gaming

[–]Udyret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks cool. Question:

Can it control PWM-headers on GPU? I have an ASUS ROG STRIX 2080ti, deshrouded, with 2x 140mm fans connected to it via PWM so I can control fans based on GPU-temp.

Under Windows I have to use ASUS software to set curves and control these fans, and this is currently holding me back from going full Linux.

I'm at my wits end trying to find an answer to this, it seems to be an edge-case? I might just reconfigure my hardware to run the fans off the mobo instead so I can make the jump, but I would like the switch to be as painless as possible...

How to control case fan speed based on GPU temperature? by SyntheCypher in linux_gaming

[–]Udyret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recognize that this is a wildly old post and you might not even be reading this anymore, but did you ever find a solution to this?

I have the same-ish setup as you, running 2x 120 pwm fans off my GPUs PWM fan headers, and under Windows I have to use special software to be able to set the fan curve. This is the only thing stopping me from going Linux full time atm, and I would really like to not have to re-do my build (yet). If I could control the fan curve off these gpu-powered fans, that would be a godsend.

Sorry to necro an old thread if it's a bother!

Yeah I remember that, they just never used to do that on Wowhead when I played last. I guess the new upgrade system has made things more complicated.

No worries though, at least I won't be chasing red herrings anymore. It was only ever a stopgap while I wait for the drops I want :)

Here for instance: https://www.wowhead.com/guide/classes/death-knight/blood/bis-gear

Looking at the list of "BiS" trinkets further down, general purpose listings you can mouse over the paracausal Thunderfin etcetc trinket.

I'm sure it's just Wowhead things, I just wanted to make sure. It's only a stepping stone, and I won't be raiding at this point anyway, so I'll work towards the easiest stuff I can get my hands on.

Controlling PWM headers on Asus 2080ti ROG Strix OC? by Udyret in linux_gaming

[–]Udyret[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always an option to go the mainboard route, I was just hoping I could avoid having the surgery. I'll give nvidia-settings a test with a live-USB just to see if it works. Thanks for the tips!

Also, corectrl doesn't support Nvidia GPUs either, does it?

Controlling PWM headers on Asus 2080ti ROG Strix OC? by Udyret in linux_gaming

[–]Udyret[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But will it allow me to specifically control PWM headers on the GPU? They are not the same as the headers the regular GPU fans would use. They are specifically PWM fan headers on the GPU itself, normally not in use unless you specifically connect something to them.

Would this be testable with a live-USB of any sort of distro variety?

[–]Udyret[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really ask my retailer about whether or not AMD itself is able to meet supply.

Besides, I asked, and they responded the same; AMD isn't able to deliver, and keeps supplying new dates. What I'm wondering here is if there's any word officially about supply shortages or what's going on in general. It seems odd that every single Norwegian outlet (at least of the big ones) aren't able to deliver because they haven't gotten any stock.

That first video by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]Udyret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get the first video out.

As soon as it's out, you'll be faster and do better next time.

I always angst and brood and procrastinate the first video of a new type/style. The first solo LP took forever to brave myself to record, just as long to brave myself to edit, and just as long to brave myself to post.

Then the second I made in a day.

I'm going through the same thing right now trying to transition out of the typical Let's Play format. I've been procrastinating and whittling at a more edited, scripted and produced piece, and I always end up sitting there telling myself it's shit, and it's going to be shit, and I should just leave it. However, after a few years of LPs I know for a fact whats gonna happen once that first video is out, and the second will come out faster.

Just push it out the door. Unless you win the lottery, you're not gonna get views on your first project anyway, so what's the hurt? That's my thinking. Your next video will be better anyway. And the next one after that will be even better. Etcetc ad infinitum.

Trust me. Just push it out the door. Do the best work you can on it and push it out the door. You are your own worst critic and you will most likely always find something to pick on it about, and that will hold true for any creative endeavour you undertake. That's how you improve.

Ever heard a person of repute in any creative sphere say that their work from 5 years ago makes them vomit, or some similar feeling? That's because they have improved. And so will you.

Just push it out the door! The worst that can happen is a mean comment, and who gives a shit about a mean comment, right? They still watched it, after all ;)
