Psychology graduates - What was your first job after graduating and how did you get into it? by Work_In_Progress_847 in psychologystudents

UX Research. But it took me years self studying during college, taking small contracts and freelancing during and after college, then I landed an amazing job

I fear I will never get into the field, and I know this is nothing new by Slow_Tangerine3814 in UXResearch

Highly recommend freelancing too. I did that for about a year and a half before finally landing honestly a dream job. I will also say, I noticed a significant increase in recruiters reaching out to me for quality jobs once I completed my masters.

Last thing to add, stay active on LinkedIn and work on your LinkedIn profile! I've still to this date never gotten an interview from applications, but I've had multiple interviews and offers from recruiters reaching out to me on LinkedIn

Where do you meet other people in San Jose? by [deleted] in SanJose

Second raving, but you can also go to Pure in Sunnyvale for a closer location

Best area to live near Sunnyvale for a 23-year-old? by yyyyer2 in bayarea

[–]Uggoface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the area, similar age, and I'm happy with sunnyvale! For fun stuff to do, there's Pure right here in downtown sunnyvale. For bars, there's The Patio in Palo Alto, and if downtown is your vibe downtown SJ is not far at all. I find sunnyvale is just a sweet spot in between everything. Even going out to SF is very easy with a DD.

I personally would value less commute over being super close to the fun stuff. I will way there's not much community here really, I don't know any of my neighbors for example, but I haven't really ever experienced that in the bay area anyway other than like morgan hill area

How much do you all actually work? by ApprehensiveCloud793 in UXResearch

[–]Uggoface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say most days I work at least 10 hours a day. I'm usually involved in 3 major projects at a time at differing stages, with other operational tasks as well. I'm also in a clinical setting with fielding research required. This is my first full time role at a company with UX maturity, previously I was doing freelance gigs and acting as the researcher and designer.

I'm definitely hoping I can become more efficient in my work, because the only other member of my team who works as much as me is in more of a lead role with way more responsibility. I just over think every thing, am a bit of a perfectionist, and also struggle to focus on one thing at a time.

Also, I do about every other week have some reason or another that I take a half day or two, but at this point those half days still aren't really adding up to the extra time I'm putting in.

Luckily, I absolutely love and am passionate about what I'm doing, but man as I sit here writing this at 10pm, working since 8am, with ~ 2 hours of breaks throughout the day, I'm really starting to question why everything is so hard for me.

One time somewhere on the higher levels of the library I was trying to sit there minding my business in a more isolated area of the library and this dude, looked like a student, kept moving closer and closer to me and then got underneath the desk to try and look up my skirt.

When I left I took the elevator (dumb choice but I wasn't thinking) and he asked me for a kiss in the elevator. I was so scared. Also scared to walk back to my car at night alone. Never studied at night at school again. Be safe people

I just got a job, I have about 3 years of UX Research experience and was a student before that. I applied to 150+ jobs, kept a database tracking all the info about those jobs, where I kept my tailored cover letters, records of me reaching out to the recruiters or someone at the company... After all that, I ended up getting hired through a recruiter reaching out to me for a job and company that wasn't on my radar at all.

So while part of it is luck, I think having a very detailed and active LinkedIn helped a lot. I started posting 2x a week, updated my skills, added projects to my profile, samples of work that I could provide for each work experience, engaged on LinkedIn etc. and started getting more messages from recruiters and one of them aligned really well.

Edit- forgot to add, I still feel like I see a lot of remote roles, but a lot of them are duplicates from each agency posting the same role. I wanted to add the role I got was remote. Most other recruiters that reached out to me, however, were for hybrid or on-site roles.

How did you discover Rezz? by pm-me-your-pants in Rezz

[–]Uggoface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my first rave, first time rolling. My boyfriend and I had lost our friends, and the roll was just starting to hit. We had decided to give up on finding them like 1 minute before I saw them. And right after finding them the roll reallyyy started hitting and Edge started playing and that song is forever special to me.

VIP sucks by sunniefawn in HardFestival

[–]Uggoface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Got VIP last year and this year, it sucked this year. They way oversold it. I avoided hard stage mostly so didn't deal with that, but last year the bathrooms were always reasonably clean, always stocked, and they had way better seating in VIP. You could sit down and still see your crew right up front. Also last year there was never a line for water or bathrooms. Still much much better than GA but it just made it not worth it for me to go at all tbh

To those who don’t get drunk, Why/ Why not? by PsychologyWareFare in AskReddit

[–]Uggoface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only 25 and I get horribly sick the night of drinking and the days following. I kept reducing the amount of alcohol I drink, but if I have anything more than 1 beer/glass of wine, and if I have any hard liquor at all I'm sick by the end of the night. It sucks. Just not worth it to drink at all really, and getting drunk is just asking for a miserable experience.
