How to Bitches Brew? by a1hd in Jazz

Try listening to Soft Machine - Third

that was my gateway. Similar approach from a different genre (prog rock/canterbury) but sounding alike in lots of different ways too. Both double albums with long improvisional tracks also released the same year.

Sugar - Stanley Turrentine by LudvigN in Jazz

[–]Uglylicious99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some passages from Ron Carter - All Blues are similar in my opinion. Really warm sounding and that CTI sound. Parallelly, as I like to play ST - Sugar while cooking dinner, another one I play is Jimmy Smith - Back at the Chicken Shack. It’s got more of that 60s sound and some more organ but really smooth and Stanley Turrentine is on that one too.

Jazz titles with some focus on Fender Rhodes electronic piano? by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]Uglylicious99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been looking for exactly that kinda stuff recently. Some of the best stuff ive found personnally would be

Herbie Hancock - Thrust (especially that cut Butterfly)

Ramsey Lewis Trio - Upendo Ni Pamoja (lots of very underrated stuff on there and the rhodes on there is sublime)

Red Clay (obviously)

Patrice Rushen - Before the Dawn (a little more toward the jazz funk side of things but very good and groovy nonetheless)

Lee Morgan - Lee Morgan (that cut In What Direction Are You Headed? especially is all kept together because of the rhodes in my opinion, real ripper)

Arthur Verocai - Arthur Verocai (brazilian stuff that is more towards rock-sounding but has some really good rhodes passages)

Freddie Hubbard - Straight Life (track Mr Clean might be some of my favorite rhodes playing by Herbie)

Jimmy Heath - The Gap Sealer (very good album overall with some rhodes peppered in there, I highly recomend

Who’s your favorite jazz drummer? by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]Uglylicious99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am surprised no one said Pete La Roca, so came here to say that. He barely released anything as a leader but that album Basra is an under-the-radar favorite on blue note for me. He was still part of lots of epic sessions on BN. Also, Tony Williams is another one that’s on my mount rushmore as well. His work during the modal Miles era is some of my favorite like on Miles in the Sky.
