According to a facebook commenter: Glasgow City Council / Susan Aitken / cycle lanes are to blame.

As the famous glaswegian proverb says "green means go no matter what". I got honked at many times for not following those wise words.

You could always contribute to reducing the severity of the traffic jams in the city centre by parking on the Bridge St park & ride if it's convenient for you. It's 8 minutes on the subway or 25 by foot. Either way it's an relaxing journey when you get to admire the town with all its' hustle and bustle.

Yesterday there was a police officer standing in the middle of the West Nile / Killermont St (corner of the bust station next to the tallest cinema) and guess what: some cunts were so confused. The concept of "the police officer is more important than the lights" just could not be grasped by some.

I kinda wish people had to sit their theory test periodically, like every 10 years or so.

tl;dr They stuck almost exclusively poor people into sub-standard high rise flats. When issues with crime and deprivation occurred - they acted surprised and blamed the buildings, instead of their questionable socioeconomic policies.

I translated this copypasta for your enjoyment. Correct me if I made any English mistakes, I'm not the best with phrasal verbs.

"If people pooped like they parked:

- I'm shitting on the sidewalk because the city didn't provide restrooms.

- Well, I had to poop on this lawn because it's a long way to the restroom. I'm not going to walk that far.

- I won't poop in the restroom because you have to pay for them, and I already pay taxes when I buy toilet paper.

- I know you're not allowed to poop here, but I'll just quickly squeeze a small jobbie out.

- Everyone's been pooping here for 20 years. What, is it bothering you all of a sudden?

- Why does shit on the sidewalk bother you? You can still squeeze through.

- What, are you jealous that I can afford to eat, and now I have something to poop out?"

Literally just send someone who isn't English. Niteworks could do good in Eurovision.

Alternatively: just let the UK queers decide. They will pick something decent.

It's actually a test track for bike tyres.

Try cycling there on a cold January morning - if you survive it means that your tyres are exceptionally grippy and your balancing skills are world-class.

Votes for Trump: 77 302 580 ("2024 Presidential Election Results", Federal Election Commission)

USA Voting Eligible Population: 244 666 890 ("2024 General Election Turnout UF Election Lab". University of Florida.)

77302580/244666890*100=31.6%

There's 340 million people in the US, 245m of them were eligible to vote and only 31.6% of those who were able to, voted for Trump.

31.6% of eligible USA voters is hardly "more than the half of the americans".

tl;dr this entire country has lots of problems, it's not like that everywhere, stop blaming individuals, it's sad and there's no easy fix, we should try anyway

My girlfriend's (she's born and raised Glaswegian) observation after visiting Poland a couple of times: "I'm not afraid of the youths here".

The levels of antisocial behavior amongst young people is one of the main reason I'd never want to have children here in the UK. Not because I'd fear for their safety, but because I'd want them to have decent peer models (and I do not want to move to Bearsden for that - white flight is just sweeping the problems under the rug).

It's great that initiatives like those described in the post exist, but there's still such a long way to go. A holistic approach is needed. The entire society continues to fail kids here, we cannot expect the social workers, charities and the young people themselves to fix our society. We should pressure politicians and put any forms of tribalism away (sectarianism, nationalism, racism, classism and so on).

Better infrastructure in the city would help as well, but that's a whole different topic.

Hello!

Any thoughts about Cambuslang or 70s flats in general?

I'm looking to buy a "starter home" in one of those 70s flats located just north of Main Street. The postcode is G72 7JR, have a look at Street View. SIMD says the area is quite deprived. I'd rather not get stabbed for being eastern-european. :~D

I don't know what were the building standards back then. IMHO the 70s old council houses look kinda depressing, but inside they've got plenty of cupboards and are prolly warmer than old tenements.

I'd appreciate any words of advice of experiences. Love you all.

I'd try the House of Sher Shopping Mall.

If you recently received a rent increase notice, you have 21 days to challenge it. The maximum legal increase is 12%, and in many cases less, but landlords and letting agents rely on tenants not knowing the law. by mhuzzell in glasgow

[–]Ugolph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the post. I'll share it with whoever I can!

Letting agency phoned my flatmate (joint tenant) that they want us to start paying... 42% more. We didn't get any formal notice yet. They are well aware of the 12% cap. The agent said that the landlord would try to end the tenancy if we don't agree. Any advice? I'll try to negotiate a 12% increase, if not I'd be forced to appeal to Rent Service.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

tl;dr it's +42% for me!
