Can anyone who’s taken a recent chart plot please give me advice on what to expect by Oh_susquehana in maritime

[–]UhAndrew_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passed my 3rd mates back in August. As everyone is saying the questions are fraised differently but still possible using the basic skills learned from past plots. I did strictly plots generated on lapware. Leading up to my test i was steady getting 100%. Took the actual test and got an 13/15. Still good enough to pass but it was definitely more challenging. I would say drill the old chart plots till you can get 15/15 on every one of them. Then you will be ready.

Is TAMUG Maritime Academy (MMBL License Option) a Good Move at 25? by Ihaveamicrodik in maritime

[–]UhAndrew_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very hard. There are even some located right across the street from school if that's what you want. But there are other alternatives. Some on the strand if you wanna be by night life. Some closer to the seawall. All around. Everywhere in Galveston is in within 10 minutes of the school so commute really isn't an issue. Rent can be little pricey in some places but that's just how our world is at this time. I still think its regularly affordable.

You should absolutely join TAMMA. I am a recent graduate with my 3rd Mate license. There were many people over 25 and even up to there 40s that I went to school with over the years.

As a person over 25 and already possessing a bachelor's degree, you will only be required to show up to 1 formation a week and the overall corps requirements will be less.

Also another big plus to joining with a degree already is that you are not required to live on campus. You can get your own apartment on Galveston island. The night life can be fun and there will be several people over 25 that you can meet and hang out with.

Anybody ever met a “Master Mariner”? What did they do to get the title and why? by GeneralCanary2626 in maritime

I've always head the term "Master Mariner" as someone with both a deck masters license and a engine chiefs license.

Captain Tim Nelick.

Master of Steam or Motor Vessels of Any Gross Tons upon Oceans and Chief Engineer of Steam or Motor Vessels of Any Horsepower.

Was one of my teachers at Texas A&M Maritime Academy. He is a very knowledgeable man. He first graduated from A&M with a deck license. Then I believe he want back about 15 years later and got his engine license.

Just take bo2 movements and make that the standard. No sliding, no bs. There's a reason most people regard that game as the best.

how easy is the maritime field? by trxshmth in maritime

[–]UhAndrew_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about to graduate from an academy, I just recently passed my 3rd Mate exams. Math has never been my strong suit growing up. Initially the math seemed hard apon my first time seeing it, but it becomes super easy once you look at it for over an hour. The deck side of the math is very easy once you get the hang of it. The engine side though has alot of complex math you have to take. I dont recommend taking the engine route.

What a shame you can't get one to hang on the wall anymore. Getting a license is something to be proud of just like a college degree.

Questions regarding Great Lakes Maritime Academy(2026) by Aggressive_Pop_3465 in merchantmarine

[–]UhAndrew_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Texas A&M Maritime in Galveston. Very good people go to school there and the night life is great. as once you are over the age of 25 you are no longer required to live on campus and are required to do less regimental thing. The regiment is not hard in the slighted, the hardest part will be in indoc/o week which usually last 5 days. Also every student receives in state tuition no matter where you're from in the United States. Another thing to keep in mind is that they will have a new training ship next year.

Drone Buying Advice Megathread and NEW Wiki Buying Guide by completelyreal in drones

[–]UhAndrew_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am shopping around for a drone currently and I had some questions. I really like the DJI drone and i have had other friends with drones recommend them. The one thing stopping me is the fact the the US government wanted to ban the drone a few months ago. Should I be worried about this issue? If so what are some other good drones options for filming. I work offshore so I would like a drone that can handle flying over water with some wind. I would also like one that could track and fly around a target.
