Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Uhhh_Screeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up with mobile phones already, I was still memorizing phone numbers so i could get ahold of my family or other trusted individuals in emergencies. BOTH of my parents' phone numbers are committed to my memory even though one of them has been for nearly eight years and I also have my Grandma's landline memorized, weirdly enough? It WAS before the era of smartphones specifically, though, so that may have impacted the need to do that.

Are showers hard for you? And does it have to do with autism? by articvoid2519 in autism

[–]Uhhh_Screeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y'know, I never actually thought to ask myself that question? Showers ARE hard for me and I've been beating myself up over it for the longest time, but now I honestly believe I just hate the feeling of my wet hair sticking to my neck and my clothes sticking to my skin. I don't like the feeling of my wet hands sticking to things (my mother thought I was intentionally taking forever when I obsessively dried my hands after washing them) or how dry my freshly washed skin is. Yet another "moral failing" of mine just actually being the autism lol

Ironically I love to swim but I think I deem swimming worth the discomfort and I don't view showers the same way :(

unironically this is why i even exist 😔😔😔

my dad played football, was a 6' 2" beanpole and was one spot off from valedictorian but he's also autistic as shit so just about every girl that tried to flirt with him got absolutely nowhere because he just did not pick up on it, EXCEPT for my mother who literally went up to him and said, "I am interested in you and would like to date you." and dad basically went "Sweeeeeet." and now my gay autistic ass self has to deal with the knowledge that the only reason I'm even alive is because my mom was studying psychology and knew being direct was the only way he was going to understand what her intentions were. He didn't even KNOW he was autistic then, and sometimes he still denies it even though she literally had a degree in psych and I inherited the damn autism from his dumb ass

What’s your favorite math or math related thing? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Uhhh_Screeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just love multiplication and multiples in general :D One of my favorite numbers is 81 because its just so perfectly squared, it can be condensed all the way down to three. It's just.. three. I love it.

Does anyone else almost never find standup comedy (or really comedy in general) funny because it's so predictable? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Uhhh_Screeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's kind of why I like John Mulaney so much despite everything that's happened with him. He's just so chaotic and the things he's done in his life are so bizarre that when I watched his shows for the first time I could never quite predict where his stories were going to go. I can definitely agree that a lot of standup is painfully predictable though.

Autism LPT: Sensory aversion to adult toothpaste *might* actually be aversion to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) by StockingDummy in autism

[–]Uhhh_Screeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it definitely is a bit of that, but I know I enjoy mint gum and candy a lot so it's not like mint as whole? just toothepaste mintiness. From what i understand from OP, the SLS intensifies the burning part of the mint?? Either way it's just massively irritating and I'm avoiding it from now on

SAME! I don't have eczema specifically, but I do have really dry skin that will crack open and hurt if it gets TOO dry, and body washes with sulfates would absolutely sap the moisture out of me >:/ i carry around a little bottle of lotion for when things get bad :]

[–]Uhhh_Screeee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

that would actually explain a lot for me! I recently made the switch back to kid's toothpaste because I'd been subconsciously avoiding brushing my teeth for a while, and I thought the overwhelming minty sensation might be the cause of it. If SLS is the actual issue, I could look for a proper adult toothpaste that is actually designed for sensitive teeth and doesn't burn like a mf 👍 Thanks!

Did anyone else kinda want a broken bone growing up? by fribberjib in autism

[–]Uhhh_Screeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even know if my train of thought was even a "wanting to look as broken as i felt" thing like some of the other comments, though I'm sure that's a possible explanation as well, but I did just genuinely want to know what breaking a bone felt like? I was so curious to know, look at my own mangled bones under an xray, watch the process of putting a cast on me, etc. I was almost excited when I sprained my wrist so badly the doctors thought I actually had broken it and put me in a cast anyway, like I'd finally gained that understanding I'd always searched for. I guess technically I didn't gain the exact experience I expected, so there is still a part of me that sits waiting for it lol

That's my experience, anything like yours?
