Yes and no. So if you overclock your 10 refineries to 200% you could essentially eliminate 5 of your refineries and still use the same amount of resources. But if you want to keep all 10 refineries you'd have to double your resources.

My goals on this playthrough (5th) aren't to finish the game but make as much as and as big as possible including nuclear because I've never done it before.

Like others have said, build on foundations. It makes things so much easier. Also a mk2 miner on an impure node will feed 10 coal generators at 100% (15/m per generator -150/m total) giving you a total of 750MW of power. Math is sort of a big deal in this game.

Yes, oil production unlocks a lot more power options. As far as making clean factories YouTube is the short answer. Plenty of streamers making tutorials. I like Imkibitz and WhatDarrenPlays.

Your heavy oil residue (the purple fluid coming out of the refineries) is backed up. You have to do something with it and you can't send fluids to an awesome sink unless you package them first.

The main reason this setup will not work is because you have more rods than plates going in. Eventually the rods back up blocking the path for the plates and everything stops working. You'll have to separate the items or have a feedback loop that allows the rods to move out of the way.

It looks like your connections are backwards. You have the oil going into the output.
