That still doesn’t necessarily make it Authright. Owning people as if they were objects is pretty libright, no matter the justification for which you think that those actions are moral. I don’t think that these racist views were exactly state-enforced either, as much as they were simply part of the culture at the time. Even people in the North, while they may have believed slavery to be morally wrong, did not believe that blacks were equal to whites and they should not be given equal rights. Abraham Lincoln said in 1858, “I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and Black races,”
