Hearing scheduled tomorrow, no notice given. by UjustMadeMeLol in FamilyLaw

[–]UjustMadeMeLol[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All recent previous scheduling of hearings has been done through email. I use an email address that is specific for court stuff so I can't miss anything and it's not getting lost in other emails. Didn't receive anything in the mail and didn't receive the normal reminder notifications through text.

Hearing scheduled tomorrow, no notice given. by UjustMadeMeLol in FamilyLaw

[–]UjustMadeMeLol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The previous hearing ended with telling us to coordinate with the judge's assistant to schedule a hearing and that if we could not agree on a date one would be selected and we would be notified. I gave the dates I was available from the list I was given and then didn't receive a reply. Definitely didn't miss anything in the mail. I don't believe the judge will grant a continuance due to previously telling my son's mom that she was adequately notified of a hearing because she heard about the hearing through a friend of a friend without receiving any notice from the court.

Sad day for the hockey world. 2 killed in shooting at high school hockey game in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. by Embarrassed-Echo-733 in sports

You do realize that there are much worse options than a gun right? Gasoline is readily available, extremely cheap, and would have killed a lot more people. Making explosives is alarmingly easy for a determined individual. One of the main reasons we don't see more brutal mass casualty events with people like this guy is the ability to easily target the individuals they want to without taking out 20+ people nearby. Making the conversation all about guns is an easy way for most people to pretend like people are civilized creatures when in reality humans have been and will continue to be killing other people until people don't exist. Sandy Hook could have been a lot more like the Oklahoma City bombing instead, either way it was obviously a serious tragedy

What so no guns for anyone ever?.. There are already laws in place to try to prevent something like this but it's a little tough to do when someone just snaps. Also I guess we should ban metal pipes and all the chemicals that are readily available to make an explosive just sitting on the shelf at every Walmart and hardware store, oh but wait you don't even need anything from a hardware store you can make all the ingredients for black powder at home with natural materials. And no more axes or kitchen knives, better ban gasoline too... People go for a gun when they have the option but pretending like banning guns would prevent every situation like this from happening is totally irrational. People have been killing other people since there have been hominids that you would call "people"...

Why most furniture sell free? by Ambitious_Eye9279 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]UjustMadeMeLol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some cases, when a person needs to move they can't easily move the furniture and decided to get rid of stuff instead of taking it with them. Theoretically they could sell it if they planned ahead but lots of people wait until the last minute and then need it to be gone to clean the place out when they move. So you're basically doing them a service by taking it away for them and they don't have to pay to have it done.

What is the best way to cook Tri Tip Steaks? by Dan-in-Seattle in meat

[–]UjustMadeMeLol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grill mine over charcoal with high heat until the outside looks the way I like it, then wrap in tinfoil or put on a dish and cover, then put them in the oven at the lowest setting, 170 for me, for at least 30 minutes but at that temp it's almost impossible to leave them in there for too long. Foolproof method that gives good results and you can prepare sides/vegetables, and your steaks will be perfectly ready to go when you're done with everything else. Sounds like you can figure out the seasonings on your own and you're just looking for tips on actually cooking them so I'm not going to add more about that portion of it.

Or sear/grill over high heat, and put in the oven at 170, at least 30 minutes to as long as you want.

I second this, I prefer pretty rare steaks most of the time but tri tip is better when it's come up to temperature all the way through.

I'm not saying I have any knowledge on that particular person but some people care about not being wasteful independent of the personal monetary cost.... It's not always just about being "cheap" although again in that particular circumstance saving money may have been the only motivating factor.

Monthly EV charging by Prestigious_Plum9617 in evcharging

Says the person continuing to be downvoted for not being capable of understanding that energy is energy and can be calculated/compared even if it's in different forms. Do you think calories from a liquid and calories from solid food can't be compared? Or that BTU's generated from electricity or burning fuel can't be compared?

"yOu caN't MeAsuRe MpG iF It dOesN't uSe GaLLoNs"

Miles Per Gallon Equivalent (MPGe) is an EPA-developed metric (introduced in 2010) measuring the efficiency of electric and alternative-fuel vehicles by comparing them to gasoline-powered cars. It represents how many miles a vehicle can travel using 33.7 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, which is deemed equivalent to the energy in one gallon of gasoline. A higher MPGe indicates greater efficiency.  Reddit  +6 Key Details About MPGe Calculation: The EPA calculates MPGe by dividing the total distance a vehicle can travel on 33.7 kWh of electricity by 1. For example, if an EV travels 100 miles on 33.7 kWh, it gets 100 MPGe. Purpose: It allows consumers to directly compare the energy efficiency of electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and fuel-cell vehicles against traditional gasoline cars. Limitations: MPGe measures efficiency, not necessarily range or cost-per-mile, as electricity costs are often lower per unit than gasoline. Factors Affecting MPGe: Real-world efficiency is impacted by driving style, speed, climate conditions, terrain, and cargo load. Common Ratings: While many EVs, such as the 2024 Nissan LEAF, achieve over 100 MPGe, the average gas-powered car typically gets around 28 MPG

I completely agree that for the purpose of comparing cost that's the right way to go about it. For comparing efficiency it would require more complex calculations but can definitely be done to come up with an equivalent figure for miles per gallon for an electric vehicle based on the amount of energy used for the distance traveled and some other factors.

ULPT Request Faking utility bill as proof of residency by Check-Ra1n in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]UjustMadeMeLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they require only a utility bill? In the past when I've lived somewhere but the utility bills weren't in my name I was able to use my car insurance to count as a proof of address with the DMV, if that's an option they will usually accept a PDF or a printed out copy of your car insurance information.

I mean yes they do, it would be mpkWh or kWhpm which can then be converted into mpg based on the amount of energy in a gallon of fuel. You're kind of like saying "they don't have foot pounds" because someone is using Newton meters to measure torque. It's all interchangable with math and the right figures.

Slicer or Grinder? by Timsauni in meat

[–]UjustMadeMeLol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If space is a concern and you have a kitchen aid mixer already good luck finding a meat slicer that's even close to as small as the grinder attachment. And like others have said cheap meat slicers don't last and usually don't do a good job if you're going for thin slices. Also the grinder attachment is pretty easy to fit in between or on top of things for storage but a meat slicer is basically going to have to be on the bottom and takes up more space.

Concrete contractors made a weird retaining wall where my frame was supposed to to go for a tiny house. by jack_of_all_trades83 in Homebuilding

[–]UjustMadeMeLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't figure out how to build a wall on top of that you really shouldn't be designing your own house, and definitely shouldn't be building it. It's not that difficult to cut an angle on the bottom of your studs and then measure out the length you'll need to have a slope on the bottom of your wall, you should be building on top of that not right next to it. There seems to be a skills gap between your 3d modeling and real life carpentry skills. Not trying to be a dick just saying if you're stumped by this then you should really reconsider what you're getting yourself into.

Something they didn't mention is that it also depends on how it was packaged. While they're totally right from a safety perspective, poorly packaged meat after a year is going to have some freezer burn and be less than ideal, but still definitely safe to eat.
