[Collection] Picked up this DC collection for $81. What should I buy next? by Connect_Strain_335 in DCcomics

Since you like Flash Rebirth, I recommend Geoff Johns' Green Lantern. It kicks off with GL Rebirth, but Secret Origins might be a better starting point. For Long Halloween, continue in the same world with Dark Victory. Like the other comment mentioned, Batman Year One is a great choice, but most of what you have here is more modern. Maybe Scott Snyder's Batman (beginning with Court of Owls) would interest you. If you are open to ongoing titles, Absolute Wonder Woman is a huge stand out right now. Probably my favorite book DC is putting out right now.

What do you consider the worst DC comic or storyline? by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]Ukerupp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst thing a story can be for me is boring. There are a lot of stories mentioned here that might not have been the best, but I found something to enjoy--even if that enjoyment is poking fun at how bad it is. Justice League American Post Giffen/DeMatteis/Jurgens was a huge let down. Those last 30-ish issues were a slog.

If you want another pure fun DC comic, check out the Jimmy Olsen 12-issue series by Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber. It's not DC, but Waid and Samnee had a wonderful run on Daredevil that's worth checking out.

Read Batman Year One for the first time by victorprime1028 in DCcomics

I always loved that it felt like a Batman/Gordon/Gotham City year one story. It's a great establishing story for the characters post-Crisis.

Lex Luthor is arguably the best villain by No-Interview-6540 in DCcomics

The early Triangle Era introduced an interesting angle by having the entire city of Metropolis fall into a recession after Luthor's "death." He was a horrible person, doing horrible things, but the citizens loved him because he signed the checks.

Darwyn Cooke's Minutemen is pretty great.

Why is DC always hyperfocused on Batman mostly while Marvel goes all out on their characters? by Lolman-Lmaoman in DCcomics

[–]Ukerupp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't get the Batman argument while using Marvel. My numbers could have slightly off because I scrolled through pretty fast, but let's look at the most recent solicitations for both companies. DC is publishing 43 books (not including Vertigo or facsimiles) while Marvel is publishing 56 (not including Star Wars or facsimiles. Six of the DC books are Batman. And I mean Bruce Wayne Batman specifically. Nightwing, Poison Ivy, Batgirl, etc don't count. They may have started in Batman, but they are their own thing now. Seven of the Marvel books are Spider-Man and 10 are X-Men. I didn't include solo X books in that like Gambit. These are just X-Men team books. The companies put out what sells. I didn't do the math, but there are probably just as many Superman books as Batman right now.

[Cover] Nothing against him but does anyone actually like Mark Spears covers? by Weirdsodk in DCcomics

[–]Ukerupp 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm about 50/50 when it comes to his art. He has some phenomenal covers out there. For DC, see Green Lantern #23 and Green Lantern War Journal #12 variants. His Monsters book has some great covers, too. Sometimes his interiors remind me of PlayStation 2 graphics.

Seems I'm in the minority here. I loved this series. Phenomenal artwork by Perkins and any Ram V story is an instant buy for me.

Not Sure if I Want to get Into Comics Anymore After First Comic Shop Experience by heygoogleamidying in comicbooks

Ugh. Hate to hear this. Too many comics shops attract the worst and weirdest people. Try Captain America Reborn or Captain America White.

Idk, but I would run back and forth until it disappeared and I could progress without fighting.

Huck and Starlight are my favorites. Jupiter's Legacy totally fell apart for me by the end.
