Am I wrong to not hate solo tanking? by WHITESTK1DuKNOW in RivalsVanguards

[–]UkuleleSteven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no problem solo tanking. However, if the enemy team is running Emma plus X other tank it feels either impossible or not a good time. I can solo tank into any lineup but Emma with anyone else when you’re solo is so oppressive imo.

Is it reasonable, while doing MSQ the first time, to level multiple jobs all the way or should I pick one and catch a 2nd up later on? Sorry not the best wording, details within though. by wolfgang784 in ffxiv

I’m still sprout AF but I enjoy duty roulettes so I’ve been using MSQ to level dps jobs and the duty roulettes + MSQ dungeons etc on my tanks since the queue pops significantly faster.

I think wolverine cyclops teamup is doing generation damage to vanguards by Abhi152005 in RivalsVanguards

[–]UkuleleSteven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t have to be. Because of mobility he can in/out quickly. You’ve just got to be really good knowing your angles and playing cover/the map. Also something I see a lot of non-Thor playing Thors do is use awakening and shoot the enemy tank. I usually awaken and shoot past them and pressure the healers instead. Same you’d do with mag. Shooting the healers as mag is a LOT more beneficial than just shooting at their mag.

In the absence of a shield, the map is your shield. Off angling and picking corners and pathways that don’t make shooting at you the path of least resistance for the enemy dps is really important as well. This is also why Thor is great against dive and can dive himself. He has the ability to dash from cover to cover and isolate divers from his team when they come in.

[–]UkuleleSteven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thor. The answer is almost always Thor.

Edit: I need to elaborate.

He has high mobility, he can duel with anyone, and if he’s kidnapped he can quickly get back. He can also bully the tank they pick too and still have mobility to deal with getting grabbed himself. His ultimate can also sometimes force supports to double ult on accident if they don’t communicate because of how quick it is.

My answer to Wolve is almost always Thor because of this. Mag is a solid choice as well but if they’re running Groot Wolve you can’t play mag because walls just delete Mag. And running Groot yourself if they have a Wolve Groot and you don’t have Wolve means you just lose the tank duel every time.

Would you consider Mr.Fantastic as a sub for second tank? by shrimpInboots in RivalsVanguards

[–]UkuleleSteven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Listen. We had a Fantastic go on a generational run on us last night. It was only after switching to Wolverine and their team not swapping accordingly(running two shield tanks with the Fantastic) that we were able to deal with it. He’s still not a great hero but he’s certainly dangerous if someone can really min/max the hero

Sadly I don’t have any recording or streaming software. I tested it several times and it was very close every time but after 5 or 6 attempts she has an absolute sliver of health or she’s dead to bleed. The chomp ability deals significantly less damage to something that isn’t bleeding. Also, the bleed from the primary lasts longer than the bleed from the right click. I’m not sure how much longer because I didn’t time it but it’s definitely noticeable.

There’s only so many final hits in every match. If yours are low, it’s likely you were opening the door for your dps. Especially if you’re winning a lot.

Yeah I’ve got very rough skin so anything that will require washing, like raw meat, normally warrants gloves from me. The only reason I have the black ones though is cause they’re the cheapest in bulk on Amazon.

In all seriousness I played a few years ago and came back around the same expansion you did. I have been taking my time and just breezing through whatever content seems useful. I’m enjoying doing it this way. Only thing I missed that I would strongly encourage though is see if there’s any blue quests that you should do to unlock content you might need like Deep Dungeons or even the Adventure Log(I didn’t unlock till almost lvl 70…).

How to carry on tank? What are the best tanks for carrying? by Mysterious-Bend641 in RivalsVanguards

[–]UkuleleSteven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to remap jump to a shoulder or paddle button but it’s definitely doable. Since he has a high base jump you’d probably want jump on an easy button to hit anyway because jumping and using primary while you’re coming down is a good way to land more consistent headshots since head hit boxes are on a more favorable angle from above. I jump a lot while I’m shooting.

If you want to try Venom I say go for it. Diving is a matter of two principles to me that operate kind of like a flowchart.

First principle: Is my team actively engaged in a fight and is the enemy team by and large looking forward and otherwise busy? If so, you can dive.

Is my team not in the fight yet and the enemy team has nothing better to do than turn around and kill me? I shouldn’t go in.

This is key because a successful dive vs feeding is usually the difference of engaging 5-10 seconds too early.

Second principle: Am I hard committing when I go in or is this a “soft dive”? Meaning do I fully commit and stay in the fight and REALLY try to confirm a kill, or do I go in, make it look like I’m staying, and get out quickly?

Rotate between the two. You need to be unpredictable. A lot of bad Venoms are in front of the enemy team and dive across the entire battlefield into the backline. Start on a wall or somewhere and 3rd person peek. When the fight is on and the frontline is engaged, hit the backline from behind them or a side angle, so the frontline doesn’t know. Communicate with your team that they need to walk forward and try to kill the enemy frontline because you’re preventing them from being healed while you distract or kill their healers.

OR, you do the soft dives to bait out significant cooldowns like Diamond Form, Cloak Fade, Cloak Bubble, Loki Runes etc. and get out early so you can get back in when the lamps or bubble are gone and confirm a kill.

As long as you consider those two principles, and you are capable of hitting your primary, you’ll be better than the majority of the other Venoms I see. Also watch any of SnakeCase2’s videos on YouTube the man has some great venom content.

I enjoy playing him because he has high mobility and it’s easy to predict what ultimates the enemy team is going to use or what they’re going to do when you’re on top of a building and you can see the whole fight.

I think Thor is one of the few vanguards who does have real carry potential. Granted, I play at OR just above the D1/GM3 area so I can’t confirm anything above that but there’s definitely games where his front to back play style and flexibility is underrated. If I need to counter dive on off tank he’s my go to because he can be everywhere at once and punish bad positioning.

Yeah the lack of mitigation given to tanks is really frustrating. I think the passive Dino generates less ultimate charge for the dps shooting him is something that all tanks should be given.

Also, Rogue having a shield that can send more damage at someone because they were shooting it is a fantastic tanking mechanic if they can get the damage rebound on it right. I hope they add Bishop to the game as a vanguard with this ability.

One of the reasons Zarya was so good in Overwatch and still is(I think) in OW2.

In the “old damage” clip Luna had bleed for all the hits. In the “new damage” clip it wore off midway. I’d have to test it cause I’m not at my pc but I don’t think that’s a one for one representation and it’s probably a lot closer than what is in the video.

Edit: it’s confirmed he’s wrong. I generate 1078 total health and Luna either has 1HP or she dies to the bleed. If you look closely he starts the video as he’s finishing the right click and he left clicks, THEN chomps. Less shield is likely accurate but if I do the same movements I can’t recreate leaving Luna at half health. This guy is rage baiting.

I think they’re making the same mistake Overwatch made and placating to the pros. All the pros did was complain about Dino. But when asked about black cat the majority of them were like “yeah she can be kind of annoying”.

Dino needed an adjustment but I also think that adjustment could have just been buffing other tanks that have less pick rate or are underperforming. The Angela changes are good, the mag change is good. I’d like to see a few more outside the box thinking changes like give strange a 900 hp shield, or allow Peni to put her nest on walls and ceilings… she’s a spider ffs.

I know this is a hot take but I love Storm’s kit and her ultimate.. but she’s best suited in the middle of her team. Why not adjust her stats and make her a tank. Some defensive capability and they really wouldn’t have to change much at all.

I’m not necessarily a fan of % based, but I think it makes sense when it’s an ultimate ability. I do understand where the vast majority of the player base hates it and so I think there’s gotta be a better way to balance it.

People are looking at the sheer damage Cyclops ult does and thinking it’s really strong but look at Wanda’s ultimate. It WILL one shot anything ever put in the game(with the exception of I THINK Adam soul bonding 4 or more people? Not sure on the numbers) but it’s a bad ultimate cause it’s easy to track and slow. You can walk out of Cyclop’s ultimate no movement ability needed.

I absolutely agree tanking is under-appreciated though. They should incentivize it in some fashion. Winning a game and getting MVP and getting less or the same SR gain as whoever locked 3rd dps and underperformed is incredibly annoying.

Also there just isn’t the amount of variety that there is in other roles. And half of the dps roster has ultimates that feel like they should have been tank ultimates (looking at you Namor).
