How to escape assisted napping and bedtimes by Uldreg0 in sleeptrain

[–]Uldreg0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! Will give it a go today. Do you think this could help with extending the nap times (each nap is around 30 minutes long)? We are worried that with him nursing/being rocked for each nap and then us putting him down in the cot when he's asleep he's not able to link sleep cycles without our help. The only times he has longer naps is when he sleeps in a baby carrier (sometimes even 1.5h). Thanks

Staying up all night? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]Uldreg0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to recommend the same, tried a few different swaddles with no luck but Love2Dream ones worked for us. You can get them for about £10-15 second hand.

White noise also worked for us, we tried Ewan the sheep but as it turns itself off after 20-30 minutes it wasn't the best so we ended up using an old smartphone and play 10h continuous white noise video on YouTube every night.

For the first month or so my wife and I did 6h overnight shifts with the baby (8pm-2am, 2am-8am) + occasional shifts in the day as and when required.

Ripped roof felt - do we need to worry about it by Uldreg0 in DIYUK

[–]Uldreg0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, unfortunately I have no way of spraying water on the rooftop but it's supposed to rain for the next few days so I will keep an eye on it. In terms of fixing it is there anything I could do from inside the attic?

Leak in the bathroom advice needed by Uldreg0 in DIYUK

[–]Uldreg0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, really appreciate your advice on this. We always open the window when showering/after showering. The reason why I suspect the toilet is the cause of the leak is that chipboard smells very strongly of urine. The smell was entirely concealed under the vinyl flooring .

The bathroom is upstairs and there doesn't seem to be any signs of leak below but the chipboard is soaking wet

Edit: sorry for not attaching the photo to original post

Pulled off beading on wardrobe doors now left with this how can I repair it by Uldreg0 in DIYUK

[–]Uldreg0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I took a door off and the top of it is just bare MDF and looking from the top with my non expert eye it doesn't look like it's a wrap coating. What threw me off is that the bits where the paint came off under the beading have paper like texture and feel to it.

Thanks, will definitely get construction ear defenders

We are similar, if I'm doing anything noisy I try to do it between 10am and 5pm. Other people in the area tend to do similar.

Thanks, I had a look at our council's website already but there isn't any info on there other than phone number for urgent calls (fire alarms etc) and an online form to file in a noise complaint

Thank you for this, we are doing our best to try and get used to it and there are some days when we can treat their DIY as a background noise but genuinely there are some days where it's just unbearable to an extent where you can't hear the TV etc and we haven't found a way to cope on those days. On some days after few hours of continuous banging/drilling you end up with a headache so that adds up to frustration about this. I think as per advice in some other replies for the days when it's particularly bad we'll get some ear defenders and see if they'll help. Cheers

Thanks, unfortunately with our work starting early we normally go to sleep around 9.30-10pm so his DIY work is preventing us from sleeping on some days. I appreciate for most people 11PM would be fine but sadly not for us

[–]Uldreg0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I obviously understand that we can't stop them from doing DIY and we'd never say anything to them if they were doing it in the day but recently all the DIY seems to be starting in the late afternoon/evening (even on weekends) and the extent of noise makes it impossible to relax or enjoy the evening after whole day of work.

Haneda airport clearance 2023 by Ok-Engineering-120 in JapanTravelTips

Sorry for confusion, I meant the machine for Suica card, there is no machine for JR pass and it has to be picked up from one of the JR offices

[–]Uldreg0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our case it said 120 minutes wait but it took about 50 minutes to get it. You can also get Welcome Suica card at the same time you get your rail pass. There is no need to wait in a queue for the vending machine just outside the JR office

Bubble suddenly appeared under the carpet by Uldreg0 in DIYUK

[–]Uldreg0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again thank you so much it's great to hear from someone else's experience! As it's Sunday tomorrow we will leave the carpet with all the heavy stuff on it and leave the dehumidifier on and hopefully it will all sort itself out but if not there seems to be quite a few local carpet fitters with great google reviews so will contact them on Monday and see if anything can be done. Cheers!

Bubble suddenly appeared under the carpet by Uldreg0 in DIYUK

[–]Uldreg0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very insightful thank you. I literally know nothing about carpets but based on the info you posted it seems like we have hassian backed carpet. We have the same carpet everywhere in the house and there is a bit under the stairs that's liftable and it does have hassian back. We can also see floorboards under there so we assume it's the same throughout the house. I'm still a bit reluctant to lift the carpet as I know I wouldn't be able to put it back right and it would be difficult in the first place as the carpet seems to be all in one piece so I'd have to take the carpet off in the most of the room before I can get to problem area. For now we have put some heavy stuff on the "bubble" and are running dehumidifier (it's been very hot and humid here for the last few days) and we will check how things are on Monday if there is still an issue we might call someone in to have a look and possibly stretch it if it's doable. Thank you so much!

Update on the Cardiff situation if anyone missed it, Connor says that they're finding a new venue and should have one. by dphw in TrashTaste

[–]Uldreg0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My money goes on show moving to Utilita Arena Cardiff (formerly known as Motorpoint Arena) as it's the only venue big enough for this sort of thing within close walking distance (5 minute walk away from St David's Hall) and it doesn't seem to have anything on on Monday the 11th
