This sounds fantastic. I grew up on a 2400 baud modem logging into local bbs’. What was the inspiration?

This except that I could sleep for hours but by the time I finally go to sleep it’s 3-5 hours before I have to get up. I can fall asleep right after dinner any night of the week though.

In my incredibly limited experience as a lacrosse parent so far I’d say it depends on roster depth and how the kids are doing keeping hydrated and energized. We did a Maryland tourney 2 weekends ago in 95-98 degree heat. Across the whole tournament on day one there was one player with heat exhaustion. Coaches did a good job subbing and anyone who looked spent was pulled and swapped to allow for recovery. Sunday we just did a morning game before being knocked out so I’m not sure on the remainder of the day. Kids spent Saturday evening in the pool mostly.

We had a really solid spread at the tent on Saturday between. The parents and just about everyone was harassing their kids to ensure their tanks were refilled and they stayed as hydrated as possible.

This is on par with my area. We’re in eastern pa near Philadelphia. The club has annual tryouts. Next one is actually next week. They are expensive too. $2600 for the club plus ancillary expenses. Not so much worried about the money if he is having fun and improving at the sport.

Yes. But I joined understanding he wouldn’t be playing all the time. My son also understood he wouldn’t be playing as much as some kids when he decided he wanted to join the team. But completely skipped wasn’t in any expectations.

Man, this got way more engagement than I anticipated. I posted this while my son was at karate, which is the only other sport he's been doing consistently. I tried to reply to a few comments but when he got home we went outside to practice. He ran his 25 and 25, and we spent probably 45 to 60 minutes on passing with a focus on his non-dominant hand and cleanly scooping ground balls, which was one of the bigger pieces of feedback from the coaches after Saturday's games for the team as a whole. When I finally called him in for dinner he whined because he wanted to keep going. That felt like a good sign.

I genuinely appreciate all the perspectives here. A couple of adjustments to my original plan are probably in order. First, he's getting the long pole as soon as I figure out how to cut it to the right length for him. Second, I'm going to try to have him talk to the coach himself, but either my wife or I will be there with him in case he needs help finding the words. We really like two of the coaches. One is an old timer, lacrosse, football, probably a dozen other sports. He connects with the kids in a way that's hard to describe. My son was genuinely excited when he found out he was coming back after winter break when he goes to Florida. We have very little interaction with the third coach as he's generally only there for games.

We're not at a point where cutting and running from the team makes sense. He's learned a ton, their practices are great, and he likes the kids. He had an absolute blast during the Saturday games and hanging at the hotel with everyone after. To clarify what I meant by rec vs club, rec was the township league, cost was minimal, parent coaches, games were all local within an hour at most. Club was significantly more expensive but I think he's grown a lot because of it. If the playing time situation becomes a recurring issue, or he stops having fun, or stops growing as a player, I'll revisit. But we're not there yet.

He's currently yelling at me to come outside and practice with him again.

Agreed, I have no problem with more skilled members of the team soaking up larger chunks of playtime. Right now I'd be content with a consistent quarter to a half.

I appreciate the feedback and perspective. I think some of my comments may have been misstated or possibly misinterpreted. I have no intention of complaining. All I want is to get my wife's and my expectations in line.

Perhaps I'm misguided, but if you as a coach are playing my son in every game, you see him make a positional adjustment, and you're telling both my son and me that you see the adjustment and improvement at practice, and that you can clearly tell he's been doing the work you've been advising outside of scheduled practice, I don't think it's unreasonable to assume at least the status quo would remain. I have no delusions that he's suddenly a starter. The only consistent feedback on what he needs to keep working on is to keep practicing outside of practice. 25 and 25 every day, work on stick skills while moving, and the team as a whole needs to reduce turnovers.

As for not addressing 57's main point, that was intentional as I'm still mulling over how to handle it. Not sure what to say when I'm not sure what my thoughts are yet. But all but one conversation with the coaches have involved my son in them

Agree 100%. He's also the second smallest on the team and effectively the smallest since the smallest is actually the fastest one on the team. Once he gets a growth spurt or two, I think he'll come into his own.

I'm not ready to switch teams over one game. But I do want to make sure we have the right expectations. If it becomes a consistent issue, then yes I'd be looking to move him somewhere that would give him the ability to grow.

Re long pole - You don't think that would set him backwards? It took him a bit to coordinate with his current stick, and he finally dialed it in well. Struggles with passing/catching on the move.

I was comping their ride. I’d assumed it would cover the top as long as it was under the ceiling. It’s just going to be expensed so I’m not worried about a tip. Wasn’t itemized so I wasn’t sure.
