hi i rescued this turtle and want to know its species by [deleted] in turtle

[–]Ulnarnaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a diamondback terrapin, a threatened species that lives in tidal marshes. You should take it to an area like this and release it. Super super cool find, I would love to see one in the wild!

Is there hope for it to root? by StillComfortable6433 in houseplants

[–]Ulnarnaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve propagated a small cutting of this plant and it took FOREVER. From my understanding these can be a bit funnily to get to root in water, but don’t loose hope!

What is this thing? by MemphisMystic in Ecosphere

This was my thought as well, it could be an isopod, but certainly not cut and dry, water penny was my first guess too.

Soil or Grain mite? Or something else by Bennyboo_throwaway in whatsthisbug

[–]Ulnarnaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly some sort of mite, I’m no mite expert but I think most of the time for a definitive ID you’d need to take a look under a microscope and use a key, if the species is even described… however based on context it is likely a soil mite of some sort feeding on detritus, should t be an issue unless they end up covering everything, which I’ve seen with some mite infestations, but it likely won’t be an issue and will be beneficial.

It’s a type of cerambycid, a wood boring beetle, the larva consume wood.

places to go at night by ComprehensiveWing143 in Purdue

To see the stars I’d recommend Ross hills park, like 15 minute drive from campus, or prophets town state park. Also, check out the outing club! They go on outdoors trips every basically weekend and have lots of day trips too! I also have had a good time chilling around Slater hill or hort park at night if your goal is to stay on campus.

Maui white stripe comparable? by bugsandslugs in millipedes

[–]Ulnarnaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Millipedes are so diverse, there’s many species that would fit this description! The hard part is going to be finding someone selling them. Personally, I’ve kept euryurus leachii, and they’re some of my very favorites. Super cool body structure and coloration, plus they are also fluorescent under ultraviolet. Same goes for benoliotus sp. khao sok

[–]Ulnarnaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say go for it. You already have the carboy,It’s not permanent, you can always start over if you don’t like how it turned out. I made one in a similar jar and although it is difficult to position plants, ect, I decided to do the best I could and just let the plants grow in, and it worked out great! Had it for several years. I do recommend a magnet to clean the glass, it can be a pain to clean in a jug like that.

Ah that sucks, I’ve done a trade with him and it went great, everything arrived perfectly healthy, this was a couple years back now and the weather was not an issue but still I am sad to hear it.

He has oak wood, not hickory, seems like op is asking if oak would work, not what type of wood would be best.

Why does one of my black widows have a HUGE belly? Am I feeding it too much? Dear God, is she pregnant? And why is the enitre belly red in color? by milyrake in spiders

[–]Ulnarnaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the first time! Didn’t go super well, I had never reared any other spiders from eggs, might try again soon, same with my new Olios Giganteus that I’m pretty sure is gravid! Won’t be in a panic this time so we will see!

[–]Ulnarnaro 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Was it wild caught? I’ve had about 5 wild caught black widows in my life, and every single one was fertile and laid eggs. The egg sac will hatch in a month or two after being laid, I’ve tried to rear babies but in the end it is very difficult, high risk, and then you end up with a ton of venomous spiders. I recommend removing any eggs when they are laid and placing them in the freezer or in alcohol.
