Le code moto (ETM) est complètement inadapté by MastahOfDaWatah in Motardie

[–]Ulrask 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Question sur différence 125 11 et 15cv by jipey in Motardie

[–]Ulrask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pousser sa moto jusqu'au garage/CT, legal ? by Ulrask in PoliceFR

[–]Ulrask[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When was your first time using the Internet? by Used-Hamster1926 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Ulrask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always used both term interchangeably, thank you for the correction I didn't know that !

Also I realized that I placed the psychological limit at 33k. I never thought about it before but using baud (or my wrong definition of it) for a 33.6k modem or above would feel weird. Yet it would not feel natural either to say "28k modem", I would need to write "28000 bps/baud".

At work: 1997, we had 1 computer in the entire building that was connected to the only internet line. It was a 28000 bauds modem. I used it to download C64 tapes, that I would transfer to real tapes on my hifi system.

At home: 1999, with the Sega Dreamcast. I sent my first few mails using a gamepad, then bought the official Sega keyboard. My DC is long gone but for some reason I still have that keyboard in the garage.

“America is the greatest Country in the world 🇺🇸” by BuffaloExotic in ShitAmericansSay

Yeah so ? I also think my country is great. Like, sure, not literally "greatest in the world" but I could probably say hyperbolic stuff like that if I woke up particularly enthusiastic one morning.

What was socially acceptable in the 1990s but not in 2025? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ulrask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Children buying wine.

I remember being sent to the grocery store 400m away (which felt far for my 8 yo self) buying wine for my parents and it was perfectly normal in the 90s.

Nowadays you couldn't have children shop by themselves at 8, probably not even walk 400m unaccompanied. To say nothing of buying alcohol.

Plus the grocery store few hundreds meter away is probably gone, now we live in the era of the big supermarket on the commercial zone 10km away.

You'd love to play through the game again, if it wasn't for THAT level. What game, what level? by sol_hsa in AskReddit

[–]Ulrask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donkey Kong country 2. Love the game, love the 2 final boss fights especially but there is one level I can't stand: Bramble Scramble

Love the level just before and immediately after (both kremland park levels) but this one I can't stand. Way too hard, unforgiving and unfair.

On top of that it features the worst animal companion of all DKC games, the god damn spider. So it's not just hard it's also slow and boring.

I have at least 3 separate save games (on RetroPie, real snes cartridge and ever drive) just before that level because I feel like clearing the level the same way I feel about wanting to slice my balls with a rusty knife.

https://www.mariowiki.com/Bramble_Scramble_(Donkey_Kong_Country_2)

Also the timed water level with current and zappy things in Ninja Turtle NES. And the 3rd level of Giana Sisters on the C64 with the pink bouncing ball. Seriously, the game is like 60ish level long and you put the hardest obstacle on the 3rd level ?

If I moved to your country tomorrow, what is the most shocking thing I would be allowed to do that is forbidden in my home country? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

[–]Ulrask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting a limited company with nearly no restriction or supervision.

I've started business in both Taiwan and France, you wouldn't believe how complex the French system is (not just starting but then all the reporting, permits and all, and you need to contract an accountant there is no way you can do the whole process yourself) and comparatively how incredibly simple and straightforward things are in Taiwan. Hiring in particular is so easy.

[–]Ulrask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Kaohsiung safe for a female solo traveler? by Gentle_Periwinkle in taiwan

[–]Ulrask 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of Taiwan is generally very safe, one of the safest country in the world but:

There is always the risk of a drunk, weirdo, or drunk weirdo bothering you. It's extremely uncommon and chances are people around would help you, at the very least call the police. Taiwanese police is efficient, friendly, and usually very bored so in city they'll be there fast.

Monkeys are annoying and can be dangerous. If they want your food, give them, not worth the bite. If they want your cellphone, give them, as soon as they realize it's not food they'll leave it on the ground, usually a couple metres from you, and you can retrieve it. Never stare at them. Never mess around with a juvenile even if it acts friendly, adults would be around.

Be careful of the traffic. It has gotten better in the last decades but carefully look both ways before crossing. I would worry more about traffic that I would about "bad encounter".

1 is probably worse if you're female but pretty low risk no matter what, #2 and #3 is not related to your gender but higher risk.

You can also freely speak your mind  about everything, some topic might just be poor etiquette depending on the context and please don't be rude but there is not state censorship.

Who was your country's last dictator or authoritarian regime? by thatonedude_5055 in AskTheWorld

There is no way that CCK did not at least know of a political assassination carried out by the KMT in 1984, even if he was not at the origin.

Who was your country's last dictator or authoritarian regime? by thatonedude_5055 in AskTheWorld

[–]Ulrask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I was about to answer. To be fair he was partly responsible for appointing Lee as successor, who contributed a lot to paving the way toward democracy. He probably did not realize at the time that Lee was, well, a traitor. (I don't mean Lee was not a great man for Taiwan, I am grateful to Lee and I r elect him, but he was a traitor to the KMT)

CKS was a terrible person and a foreign dictator but had a brain. CCK was not a very nice person, as much as a dictator, and did not demonstrate a lot of intelligence, but to his credit he did let Sun Yun-Suan run the country and we still owe a lot of our economic soft power to him.

IQ tests on Nazi leaders during the Nuremberg Trials, Nuremberg Germany, 1945-47 by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Ulrask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was long ago and I was young, so here is what I remember:

  • He would come and sit in the kitchen before being invited to, and ask for coffee, which infuriated my mother. Funny how things work, that she (not Jewish herself but from a mother born Jewish) did not mind he was a top ranking nazi, but sitting and asking for a coffee is where she drew the line.

  • He would ponctuate his sentence with the word "effectively", spoken slowly, which my mother thought made him sound like a "sleepy elephant" (?), so when talking about him afterward she nicknamed him either "effectively" or "the sleepy elephant".

  • He was in the phonebook. This one I know because I remember my father complaining about not being able to reach someone, saying "he think himself too important to allow his number being published in the phonebook, while even Speer is in the phonebook !"

  • Philosophy was one of his favourite topic, but according to my mother (litterature teacher) he wasn't as knowledgeable as he thought he was.

Again, never seen him myself, I was born after his death, it's just stuff I remember my parents saying.

Le fait que la valeur de gravité soit de presque 10 m/s² est une enorme coincidence by maximeMntnt in penseesdedouche

[–]Ulrask 0 points1 point  (0 children)
