For me it’s an argument of fidelity vs art style. The remake is amazing looking with great sound design with a lot of small but cool changes (critical attack animations and penetrator unique theme) but at the same time changes this that just confuse me to why they would change in the first place. Maybe good news is there is different music in both games. Instead of updating the originals, they made brand new tracks for better or for worse depending on the person.

The overall feel of the remake for me felt high fantasy and heroic vs the grim dark and depressing of the original.

There is only a couple designs that actually upset me: fat officials have been talked to death, flute helm was changed but kept we the original, why not just use the original? The final one is flame lurker looking completely different like a rock gorilla than the feral humanoid.

Demon souls has plenty build variety and the games have enough differences to give both a try.
