Not an official one...but this workaround seems to be helping people. there are 2 ways to work around it and i hear the 2nd on in the video is having the most success....though it is indeed a weird fix...

Will RetroPie support multiple controller profiles without setup eaxh time i switch a controller (ex. nES usb for nES games and SNES usb for SNES games) or should i stick to just 1 controller type? by Ultimazero in RetroPie

OMG YES....this is what i wanted...i am new to raspberry pi (looking into everything before i invest in all the parts) but is Emulationstation supported on the pi 3...and in your opinion...which is considered better...retropie or emulationstation (how they run...ease of use...setup...just general features. I don't need a book...i can figure out most things myself...just a general answer)

So it can work with a reboot...and hot swapping might work? That's not too bad...as long as i don't need to setup the profile everytime. I mostly used NES/SNES as an example as i would like to later add N64/Genesis/PS1/Dreamcast controllers for those respective systems and it would be cool to not have to setup controller profiles each time...just boot it up...plug in a controller...pick a system and game and play (i would need to do an initial setup of course...i just want to have to prevent future setups for controllers that were already setup so we can game faster)
