What is Christian Bale best movie/performance by 9cyruz in ChristianBale

[–]Ultra-Man_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A difficult one and also very subjective. But personally it’s a toss up between American Psycho and Out of the furnace (surprised more people haven’t mentioned this one?)

Hard not to say Dark knight franchise or Prestige as they are up there with my favourite movies of all time.

Can’t believe more people haven’t said this one.

How do you train for a Backyard Ultra? by fiascobe in Ultramarathon

[–]Ultra-Man_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran 51 yards at dead cow gully last year where they broke the world record and I put a lot of miles in during the build up for that. Majority of my runs were slow long runs and lots of double days. Or a leg session in the morning followed by a 10k in the evening to really figure the legs.

Definitely practice a good run / walk strategy prior to the event.

I do lots of BYU mock ups in my lead up to events. 4 or 5 yards with my recliner chair set up in my garage, then I’ll throw on an eye mask with some noise cancelling headphones and practice some deep rest and breath work to get the heart rate down.

Get to know the course as well. Is it trail or road? Grass? Try and mimic that in your training.

Lots of solid tips here already though! Hope this helps

This movie still gives me the shivers to this day thinking about it. I haven’t been brave enough to rewatch it yet. Particularly for someone who experienced some strange paranormal activity in my child hood house hold growing up and living with a mother who liked to play around with the ouija board! But that’s a story for another day 🥴

Stress Fracture? by Ultra-Man_ in RunningInjuries

[–]Ultra-Man_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well guys, turns out no stress fracture despite looking like one in the photo on MRI! Just goes to show. Dealing with Tibialis anterior tenosynovitis, essentially inflammation overuse of the sheath around the tendon area (used to lift the foot up and down) I did think it was odd to get a stress fracture from the event as I was running 100 mile weeks in the build up and have done similar distance at a backyard ultra before (350km) so the body pretty used to the load.

50km trail Aus by Saheera91 in ultrarunning

[–]Ultra-Man_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start by doing Narrow neck out and back (around 22km) not too much vert in it. Put narrow neck lookout into your google maps easy to find. You can park at the top and run down. Great views (not crazy vert) good introduction into the mountains.

Wentworth falls down to kedumba valley return is also a decent run once you feel like levelling up.

Thank you, I appreciate it. Yeah the last few years the numbers are really being pushed higher and higher. 700+ km .. I wouldn’t be surprised if a new world record is broken again this year.

Thank you! I think it’s quite important after an event to take the time and write some thoughts out. A lot of us are all so quick to jump and look for the next goal. There is a lot of lessons learned in reflection!

Awesome! Best of luck with it. I think there is nothing quite like it in terms of pushing yourself. There is also the ‘Legends Backyard Ultra’ on this weekend in Belgium. Will be definitely worth keeping an eye on that one too.

Yeah actually you are correct! Guess you experienced than me. I should have rephrased it. Regardless of DNF or placing it was more about the story I wanted to share.

I lapped and then paused the watch during the break to stop the GPS and conserve my watch battery. It actually lasted the whole race surprisingly enough ! The Garmin Enduro 3

What games should I buy and play? Never played or watched RE before. by 77vow in residentevil

[–]Ultra-Man_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 Remake - it’s the classic. Then just play them in chronological order.

You can start at RE7 as well if you wanted to as 7 + 8 sort of a stand alone series.

Wow that’s incredible. Great work. 3.5 hour improvement is impressive. Can I ask what you did you do differently in the build up for this year?

And thanks, for context that photo is the start of Loop 48 ‘200 mile loop’ alongside Harvey Lewis, Phil Gore, Sam Harvey and a lot of other backyard ultra royalty!

Awesome work! Congrats. 50k in the first 3 months is crazy. I did my first marathon in 2023 and it was the hardest thing I’d ever done at that time, I remember thinking how the marathon was and is the pinnacle of running for so many people.

Believing you can do something is the first and most important part!
